*waving white flag* Okay, guys....I got it, I got it!!! ER nurse, remember? I drop 'em and ship 'em!

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: Love that!

Tazzi..yes you have a point, it is faster, but in neonates now, air bolus and auscultation is a big no-no!

Oh yeah, of course....never in the itty bitty ones. I've never had a problem knowing if I was in the right place, gastric contents in the syringe has a look all its own.

You counted narcotics at the end of each shift and handed over the keys.

It's still done this way where I work. Nobody likes it when it's their turn to "count"!

Specializes in Critical Care, Emergency, Education, Informatics.
I can say it in one sentence. Higher patient loads with shorter stays and patients that are a lot sicker.

My patient load is actualy less. And yes it was longer than 10 years ago, but I remeber 1 RN, 1 LPN and 1 Aide for 35 patients on night shift. But then again we only had a couple of IV medications, and most meds were PO.

What? They don't? I guess I am out of the times, our whole floor does this and new grads say they are still being taught this.

Never heard of "check the pH"

aspitate back some fluid and check with universal paper thats its acidic

the golden test is toget an x-ray

air bolus in not best practice

Specializes in ER, Occupational Health, Cardiology.

The advent of DRGs in the 80's, which influenced approved length of stay in hospitals totally wreaked havoc on acuity levels. Computers in our part of the country are pervasive, and they were only used for order entry 10 years ago. The approach to Health Care as a "business" managed by people who have no training or experience in Medicine is probably the worst thing. That would bring us back full circle to the approved LOS!:uhoh21:

You still have narc keys?? We still have to count with the Pyxis but it doesn't have to be done at every shift change anymore, just once a week.
