Ok I am a 24 yr old male thinking about nursing. I work in the IT field and hate it. The nite shift is the main turn off . I cant tolerate a night shift position whatsoever.
Im thinking about going for an RN either ADN or BSN. I want to get into education and teach eventually
Well as a male could any of you guys tell me the good and bad of nursing as a male. I woudl like the 'raw' honest opinions.
Nursing would pay more money than I make now. IT Jobs are soooo scarce and I want something thats more people oriented.
I work in critical care and I've worked w/ women that didn't want guys around and went out of their way to 'write them up' or otherwise implicate them as not being 'good' nurses. (Ladies - if I look over 3-4 dozen of YOUR charts, I can find something that makes you look like a complete idiot of a nurse. Given enough data, I can take anything out of context.)
I've left jobs over it before, which of course, was the intent. But I don't fault those 'women'. I can stand up from myself, when management doesn't turn a blind eye to that garbage.
But the weird thing is that critical care is like ER - lots of males. Probably 25% of our staff is male. It's not like running one or two off will significantly change that ratio. And considering that I've worked 5 - 12hr shifts this week due to being short staffed and was asked to work the other two nights I had off, it seems short-sided to play 'clique' games.
But the majority of women I've worked with understand that the times, they have already changed. Men are going to be in nursing from here on out. Why? Because nursing finally pays enough to support a family.
As far as the gossip goes, most of my co-workers can see 'that look' in my eye and pause, then say, "I know, I know, BE NICE!" Be nice! is my catchphrase at work sometimes.
There may be times when working w/ women has its disadvantages. But ALL jobs have disadvantages. I don't consider it to be a deal breaker. In fact, I'm a believer that things happen for a reason. When I left the one job for lack of management support in the games nurses play, it was one of my better career decisions.

well, since i got an "a" in texas history let me hit the refresh button for you. i'm not privy to the roster of general houston's troops that fought the glorious victory at the battle of san jacinto. yet, i'd venture to say the majority were texans.
the alamo, a courageous fought battle by native texans, as well as the transit tn boys, was nonetheless a victory for the mexican general antonio lópez de santa anna. on april 21st, 1836 general houston made the decision to attack the mexican soldiers, which were awoken from their afternoon siestas to the smell of gunpowder and cries of vengeance. flushed with victory from the siege of the alamo, santa anna had failed to post sentries to monitor the texans' activities. in eighteen minutes the texans were in control of the mexican camp. over 600 mexican soldiers were killed, and over 700 were allowed to surrender; nine texans were killed or mortally wounded. sam houston was shot in the ankle. santa anna was found the next day hiding in the grass and dressed as a common foot soldier. ...remains me of sadaam hussain found in hiding.
regards to your gt mustang statement... i'm not sure what point your trying to make unless its disrespect towards me & my vette cause i never made a negative comment towards your american pony car, the mustang. in fact, i think ford did an outstanding job with the new retro look.

as for the texans thing, i thought the only two things that came from texas are steers and queers, and i dont see any horns.:chuckle :roll J/K still bitter about the rose bowl.
