I'm 53 and forced to start a new career - is nursing unreasonable at my age? Will anyone hire me after I complete ADN/RN at age 55?
Thanks!:heartbeat

I started school at age 50, graduated 2 years ago and have been employed since then...at age 55
It's never too late. Good luck to you.
Thanks for your response...are you working in a hospital or a dr's office?
I work in a hospital--step down telemetry unit.
THANK YOU!!:nuke::nuke:

I graduated with my RN last May at the ripe age of 49. I work in a rural hospital where I do everything..ER, med/surg, tele, OB and Special Care. I plan on working forever! It has made me feel younger..Go for it, never say never!:heartbeat

There is a woman in my nursing program who is 62....so I say go for it!! One thing I like to think of is that the time is going to pass no matter what, it just depends on what you do with it.

go for it!! in 2 years you'll be 55 anyway although i'm not sure if you have completed all of your pre-reqs? that takes a few years. then if there's a waiting list, possible a 1 or 2 more on top of that, plus the program... so you'll probably be closer to 60.... but you'll have so much fun along the way!!

I will be 52 when I graduate in June. I am allready having job interviews. Go and show them that age is just a number. Good luck to you.

I started 2 years ago at 44. Will be 47 when I graduate. I have a teaching degree but there have been so many cuts in our area that even if I had got a fulltime teaching job, I would need to have a 2 year master's degree. I thought, why not do the years of education for something that might be in demand? Go for it. The older students are much more focused in out nursing classes. There are about 15% of us that are over 40. Good luck.

I'm in my first semester of NS. I'm in my late 40's and there are quite a few other students in my class my age or older. I feel like I fit in well, and life experience makes me a much better student that I was the first time I went to college.
Don't let age stop you - as another poster mentioned, you'll be 55 anyway. You might as well be doing something interesting, rewarding and almost recession proof.
