Nursing after 50

Published

I'm 53 and forced to start a new career - is nursing unreasonable at my age? Will anyone hire me after I complete ADN/RN at age 55?

Thanks!:heartbeat

It's never too late. My mom finished her ADN program at the age of 55 and she has been working since. She's 65 now. Good luck!

I'll be 52 when I finish my ABSN. I think we oldsters represent a great opportunity for employers: mature, not prone to get in a dither about nonsense, lots of experience dealing with all kinds of people, etc.

I'm having a blast in school. I'm currently taking organic chem. while waiting to start my ABSN in May. I am literally 30 years older than every other student. But we have fun in lab, and I feel able to be generous with my knowledge and time, because I don't have that sense of "must compete to the death". LOL!

Good luck!

Passed NCLEX-RN this week, at 55.

No problem at all getting hired. In fact, it sometimes helps, because I'm viewed as stable and less likely to call in hung over.

;)

Congratulations!
