Hi, Everyone,
I am current getting my nursing supplies that I will be using this fall. The supply list has several items including KELLY CLAMPS. What are they and were can I get them from. I am currently ordering all of my other supplies from allheart.com. I did a search for this item but didn't get any results. I called the nursing department at my school but their was no one available to assist me. The secretary said she thought they were scissors but,.....scissors are on my list too. HELP!

They are hemostats. Can you get them from your school's bookstore? If not, or if you don't see them on the internet, you may want to check at a nursing uniform shop. I think I've paid anywhere from $5-10 for mine. Main thing I use mine on the floor where I work is unscrewing a tight IV line that won't budge when I try to do it by hand, LOL. Also, to hold a suture up with them with one hand, while snipping with the scissors with the other hand.
ARE THESE IT?

yes, those are them. Try slipping a roll of tape over the tips and then clamping them onto your scrubs at clinicals. Keeps tape handy
Thanks alot.
Yep, and that's another use I have for them. I clamp them to my left lower pocket of my scrub top. Two uses in one...pocket is handy holder for hemostats to hang on & hemostats handy holder for a roll of tape.

They are also very good for when various control knobs fall off in your car. :)

For what it's worth, I'm in my 2nd semester of an accellerated program and I have yet to use scissors or hemostats. I've never seen nurses carrying them around or using them on the med-surg floors either. There's a LOT of stuff they tell you that you MUST have before starting school that you'll never use.
That is the truth. I have text books from past classes that look brand new. Anatomy and Physiology Lab Manual $89.00 was a required text for the class (never used it). Still collecting dust under my bed. In some cases you buy things just in cases you need them and this is one of those cases. Better to have it than to not.

I didn't buy them and after 2 semesters have yet to find anyone that still carries them that bought them. Save a little money wait and ask the clinical instructor if you need them, do that with the books too have 3 books that we had the teacher refer to one page in and then she told us what those pages said and I returned one book cause I never took the plastic off.

I use my hemostats all the time! Mostly to disconnect IV tubing when someone much stronger than me screws them on too tight!! I teach nursing at a community college in WV and scissors are part of the uniform but not hemostats. Mine are connected with a pt ID bracelet. Wouldn't leave home without 'em!

Use my scissors all the time, but never hemostats. Guess I have strong fingers!
