Nursing student and over weight

Published

I guess I'm feeling a bit alone and want to know that there are others like me.

It seems all the nursing students I go to school with are thin. I'm the only big girl, and I feel like everyone is looking at me.

Worse yet, we had to get fitted for scrubs, and I need a 2X. I had to say what size I needed in front of many of my fellow students. How embarrassing!

So, are there actually people like me who are going to nursing school too?

I gained about 70 pounds since i moved to the US, i weigh now 230 lbs!!!

i dont mind the weight, i am healthy, but today I whent to get my phisical, and when he check marked my body aprearance on the list, he checked on overweight!

i must loose some wheight- will be hard during school though, but i must try!

I am a big girl, the biggest in my class and unfortunately someone decided to make some really nasty comments about fat people,fat nurses and me in class. The lecturer didnt know what to say so i calmly stood up and said to the silly girl that when she can learn to accept people for who they are, not what they look like then she will be part way to becoming a nurse.

She was gobsmacked and since then i dont really care what people have to say about me. I know that i can and will be a good nurse because i dont care if you are underweight, overweight, tall, short or from mars as long as you are my patient/working with me then i will give you everything that i have which is more than i can say about others in my class.

Yes id love to be smaller but doesnt everyone want something else? Longer hair, thicker hair, bigger eyes, smaller hands, nicer nails, bigger boobs, smaller calves. Learn to love yourself.

:yeah::yeah::bow:

:yeah: Good for you cHIXIE, i would never have the courage to do so. I had a bad experience during a test out. We were transfering and when my partner went to put the gait belt around me, it didnt fit! I was mortified and of course my parter was a twig. I just quietly said it didnt fit and the instructor said, just pretend .. horrible! :imbar
