What would you do if you found out that a fellow nursing student is smoking marijuana?
For those of you who say you would report a student if you knew they were smoking pot in their free time, do you also think underaged students who drink on the weekends should be reported too? I don't mean anything by that, I'm just curious...
Well some people believe that alcohol is of a less potent drug than the pot...I believe both are as bad, however people will continue to do it anyway,so why bother to get all stressed out about it,I rather worry about passing NCLEX!

I think the question was directed at those who feel the person should be reported simply because pot is illegal. When the point is made that marijuana is no worse for you than alcohol, many of these people will respond, "Yes, but alcohol is legal.". As underage drinking is illegal, then by this logic, all underage drinkers should also be reported, even if they drink on their off time. I think shakeitup was trying to see if the people using the legality argument really do have such a strong belief in upholding the law, or if they just have a bias against marijuana [in which case, the "illegal" argument loses much of its validity].

Haha thank you, that is exactly what I mean!
i wouldn't say anything, unless they were under the influence at work. What happens after my shift is over and i don't have to work the next day is my business. Period. Besides, I'd much rather have a nurse who smoked pot on friday take care of me on monday, than a nurse who drank on sunday and has a wicked hangover. As far as working under the influence of prescription meds, as many of you know, i struggle with panic disorder. I made it through school with SSRIs and BZDs, and continue to take them. Am I impaired at work? Absolutely not! But, let me forget to take my AM meds, and yes, I will be impaired. And, for the record, I don't smoke pot.

A lot of people seem to be of the opinion that marijuana use is automatically a safety issue, but given a choice between the two nurses described above, I'd feel much safer with the pot smoker, as well.

I definitely agree. It's what makes moderating an easy job because pepole are 99.9999% good about self-policing and agreeing to disagree. Disagreement does not mean personal attack.
