Um, to me STEM is ST Elevated myocardial infarction, (STEMI). What is it to you?
Career guides are just that, guides. They are matching you with what they think you might like.
If you don't like people and caring for them when things get, ....messy..., then nursing is not for you. The degree you earn (work very hard for), is a great thing in itself, not a "stepping stone" to something else later in life. Many of us have gone on to higher degrees, don't get me wrong, but it isn't a thing to fill time with while making great money before moving on to bigger and better things (rofling!). It is a destination in itself, and I have loved my 36 year journey through it. Totally not worth the effort if "you hate nursing".
Just because some test or chart says you should be a nurse, is no reason to become one.
I came across this Forbes article on the subject that includes a screenshot of one of our previous threads on the subject. I assume posting a screenshot of the screenshot back into an allnurses thread will cause the universe to turn inside out.

Ha ha, that's funny about the Forbes article. They use the AN snippet as an implied representation that opinions are evenly split. Looks to me like about 83% of responders to that post felt that nursing is not a STEM field. But I realize that's kind of a 'math-y' thing to figure out...
Just kidding. I don't really care if it's a STEM field or not, so long as the implication isn't that nursing doesn't deal with those elements. Heavily.

Boy what a thoughtful screen shot they chose too. They really captured the depth and nuance of the opinions of AN members.

Hi Does anyone else find themselves more matching with STEM field or any other career, while as student or as a nurse? How did you deal with it. Is it worth it to have nursing degree and pursue something else later in life after financially stable? If anyone hate nursing, how can you deal with nursing?
Thanks.
