Nursing student that is to grad in May

Published

Well, we just did the first exam for this semester which is suppose to be my last one. I didn't pass, so far I been passing the semesters with "C's" and now I fail the first exam. I am starting to second guess myself and wonder if anyone has ever been there when they were a student. The program I am in is really tough our class average was a 69 for the exam and a passing grade is a 77! So you can see that it is not just me it is also the program. We don't have very many exams so the ones we do have we have to pass or do well on. I looked at jobs to start applying and because my GPA isn't where the requirements need to be I haven't applied. I am starting to lose hope and feel like I have come this far and to quit would be horrible. Any words of advice would be appreciated.

Don't put your GPA on applications unless it is very good. That is what I was always told.

Study harder.

There is no rule that a nursing program can't be hard, and the last semester is famous for requiring you to be able to put it all together and function at a higher level of assessment and planning...because in a few short weeks you will be sitting for the NCLEX and taking care of real patients in a real patient load. This is the final barrier, and it is true that some marginal students will not pass it; they just don't seem to be able to grasp that higher expectation. I see it all the time. As they say in the stockbroker ads, past performance is no guarantee of future returns. It seems harder because it is. It has to be.

Don't want to be one of your class who doesn't get to graduation? You know what to do. It's not the same thing you've been doing. Study better.
