Nursing Specialty with Highest Pay in Canada?

Published

Just curious to know which nursing specialty has the highest pay in Canada.

In the U.S., they have "Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist" aka CRNA.

It's a 24 month Masters program, and the entry level pay after graduating is about $120,000

*note that in 2025, it will change to a Doctorate program*

The Canadian equivalent, as for as I could tell, is the Anesthesia Assistant, a post-diploma program offered by Michener, TRU, and a few others. I haven't figured found how much they are paid, rumors say about $85,000.

Anyone know if any nursing specialties pay higher?

On a side note, does anyone know of any nursing jobs in a business related setting?

I work with staff nurses who regularly make over $100K/year.

Unions are a good thing. The vast majority of US nurses are not unionized. So comaparing their wages to Cdn. nurses is pretty much moot.

I've been working a year. For the last 3 months, I've worked a .85. I'll make about 90,000 this year as a regular staff nurse. Many nurses make this and more, as Fiona said. How much do you want to make? OT is often available for those who want more than 100 grand.

Me....I'd rather have my sanity and a life. Money isn't everything.

Would a NP make the most?

NP's start at around 90,000.

No I haven't. I make a great base pay+ night differential+ I get 3.00 an hour extra for responsibility pay. It easily adds up. I'm only in a part time line to begin with, too. I stopped working OT the middle of August :)

Yea, I remember you said you're tired of working OT. Wow, good for you =). Keep up the good work.

Shift diffs add up fast. $5/hr for any hours after 23 and upto 07. Weekend premium on top of that for Friday, Saturday, Sunday. So, if I work a night over any of those days, I'm looking at minimum $8.25 on top of my base rate.

I'm a part time LPN and pretty close to $50K for this year.

I don't work any OT EVER! I'm a 0.7 FTE and I'll gross about $74,000 this year. I don't get the responsibility pay either since my management don't feel that I'm qualified to be in charge. (Inside joke.)

Money isn't everything..... I am waiting for a part time coming up.......I am working full time right now and no OT at anytime unless I am on call and got called in.......

Thanks for the replies.

Can someone tell me what this means:

I've worked a .85

I'm a 0.7 FTE
