Nursing shoes!

Published

Hi everyone! Starting next quarter we will have 12 hour clinical and I need better shoes! The ones I currently have will not keep my feet happy for 12 hours. The only problem is, of course they have to be white! I've heard dansko's are great, but what about any type of athletic shoe? Any suggestions on the most COMFORTABLE shoes would be great!!

Thank you :)

Nikes with a sole insert will probably work well. As a CNA I wore them and they were great. There are all white leather nike shox as well as other all white leather nikes that may be cheaper.

I'd make sure I got a cross trainer or running shoe-- no walking or basketball shoes.

I stand on my feet 10 hours a day and have always worn Dansko shoes. I bought a pair last week that are Dansko XP. They have a memory foam liner in them. It is like walking on a cloud. Seriously, they are worth every single penny!

I've been searching at local stores to try these on. I haven't found any yet...good to know that The Walking Company has them. I'll have to try them out.

Do you find Danko's to be heavy? Or does the comfort outweigh any "heaviness?"

I don't think they're heavy but I've been wearing then for years.

I don't find them heavy, but I wore them in food service where I did a lot of standing and not much walking. I'm starting on a very busy unit in July and think I'll be doing a lot more walking than I did when I wore my clogs to work. I wear mine recreationally too. Great arch support.

After awhile you won't notice the "heaviness". Eventually after I broke mine in, they now feel like a wonderful pair of comfy slippers custom made for my foot.

I have a few new pairs I've not yet broken in. I can feel the difference. (-; by the way--it seems the patent leather ones take longer to break in than the regular leather ones.

Thank you everyone!

Danskos are the best. This girl custom paints Danskos!

A few comments about Danskos, which I have been wearing a few months. While they are not uncomfortable as far as getting blisters goes, they are stiff, and do not bend with your feet, so you must walk a bit differently, which in the beginning cause me foot pain in both feet, and pain in my right hip, radiating down my leg. After I took my shoes off at the end of a shift, the bottom of my feet ached for a long time. I also developed hard callouses on the balls of my feet. Considering how much I paid, I went out and bought gel inserts, which helped a bit with the foot pain and callouses, but I still have hip pain..so, I only wear them a few times a week now. Love that they made me taller, though!

i think these shoes are best for nurses who stand a lot, but don't necessarily walk a lot, on hard floors, which I do. Actually I run all night, up and down two long concrete slab halls with tile floors. I don't care for sneakers, but two pairs of shoes I have that work great for me are Timberland Renova, a lower clog like soft shoe, and Skechers GoWalks, both of which are ultra comfy from the word go, the former around $80 and the latter about $50. I am on my second pair of each of these, as I like to switch my shoes around a lot, both for style reasons, and because it's good for your feet.

I love em for standing too, but definitely could not walk for 12 hours in them. My walking shoes are Skechers and I'm waiting on a pair of Renovas now.
