New grad + NOC shift
@vintagemother thank you! thanks VERY helpful! That definitely helps give me an idea of what my sleep before work schedule should be like! I like it!! What do you (or anyone!) do for sleeping the night before you have a shift... Do you stay up all or night or wake up earlier so you're tired by 3-4pm? Knowing me, I won't be able to sleep 7 hours the night before & then take a 5 hour nap in the after noon! I will be full time during training (not sure what shift) & then 24 hrs/week-ish once I actually start!

New grad + NOC shift
Thanks NOADLS! I'm not able to sound proof, but generally the apartment complex I live in is pretty quite. Temperature I can definitely regulate & know my body well enough that I need it to be cool! I'm 26, so I'm guessing that justifies as young haha.. I know I will learn to adjust, it's just that I don't know how to begin with the sleeping schedule!

New grad + NOC shift
Hello everyone! I'm a new grad nurse and just accepted my first RN job offer at an area hospital! I'll be working NOC shift 11p-7:30a, however, I've never worked an overnight shift, so this will be completely new to my schedule & body. I'm wondering if anyone has some tips &/or tricks on how to go about adjusting my sleep schedule for these shifts... Basically, how do I make myself go to sleep before my shift, how many hours should I be sleeping before the shift, do I need to pull an all nighter the night before or wake up super early that morning so I'm tired enough to sleep before my shift, etc.. Anything will be helpful!!! I already have room darkening curtains in my room. I start Aug 3rd! Thank you in advance!!

RN vs Nurse Clinician vs RN/HIB
Hello everyone! I'm a New Grad Nurse in search of a job in the Madison area! I passed NCLEX only 3 weeks ago, so I know I need to be patient, but through my job search I'm noticing RN's are called a bazillion different things, and unfortunately, google isn't very helpful (& not always correct!). I noticed at UW Hospitals, all nursing positions begin with Nurse Clinician, at Mercy Health Systems in Janesville, nursing positions are labeled RN/HIB, and thankfully some places like Meriter just called nurses, RN. I'm wondering if anyone can decipher what exactly the Nurse Clinical and RN/HIB mean, or if it's just another name for RN!? Thank you in advance!

RN to BSN vs MSN
Hey everyone! Come March, as long as all things go as they should, I will be graduating with my ADN in nursing! My question is in regards to the next step.. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Community Health & then of course, will have an ADN. I planned on working for a few months & then starting a BSN program. However, the dean of our program told us today that those of us who already have a Bachelor's degree shouldn't get a BSN & should instead go straight to a MSN program. I don't know a ton about MSN programs, besides that you have to sort of specialize, which I don't know I'd be ready to pick a direction so soon after school. I am working on doing my own research, but I'm wondering if any of you have any experience or opinions on what to do!? Thank you in advance!

Thank you Geslina & AmyRN303!! I have a pair of Sketchers GoWalk, which I love, so if I can find a white pair in my size I'm getting them!

Do you find Danko's to be heavy? Or does the comfort outweigh any "heaviness?"

Nursing shoes!
Hi everyone! Starting next quarter we will have 12 hour clinical and I need better shoes! The ones I currently have will not keep my feet happy for 12 hours. The only problem is, of course they have to be white! I've heard dansko's are great, but what about any type of athletic shoe? Any suggestions on the most COMFORTABLE shoes would be great!! Thank you :)
