Hi!
I am just wondering if you have to do very many presentatons in nursing school. If so are they group presentations or just you by yourself? I am extrememly shy about getting up in front of a group of people to give presentations.
I assume they are just a part of nursing school curriculum. We've had 2 so far this semester. You just have to get used to them. I have severe anxiety, and an extreme fear of getting up in front of people to talk...so you know what I do? I volunteer to go first Always. If I can't get up there first I try my hardest to get in 2nd or 3rd. #1 No one is listening to you. Why? Because they are going over their presentations in their head and looking over their notes. #2 You will be so relieved, and you will be able to sit back and enjoy the rest of your fellow classmate's presentations. You gotta get used to it....you will be teaching ppl for the rest of your career...that just doesn't mean 1 person (your patient)...but perhaps a room full of family members? You never know. It's all in learning. Just relax and enjoy it....group presentations are alot better than flying solo.
Don't wait so long to go up there....you will "think" yourself into a little tizzy.
Yep we do group presentations too. This semester we've got 3 major group projects/presentations. We don't do any solo ones, there's too many of us (55), that would take forever!
I just had one this past week in our Theory & Research class (30 minutes), but our group has 8 people. Then with that same group we have to do another presentation in about 4 weeks over a research topic. For our other class (maternal/peds) we have to do one (4 of us in our group) and it's a 1 hour presentation. You just get used to it, getting up in front of the class isn't my favorite thing, but group presentations really aren't that bad.
And I totally agree with what Truly Blessed said..... go first! I always make sure I'm first, or close to it. They are all so worried about their presentations and you will be so relieved.
The thing that I HATE about group projects like this isn't the actual presentation. It's the fact that we have to find a way to get 8 of us together, outside of class time! It's nearly impossible. With school, clinicals, work, kids, family obligations, etc, etc.... it's very frustrating trying to schedule that, for 8 of us! The presentation is actually the easy part!

In the LPN program i am taking we have had to do many goup presentations. and during clinical they assign us to do solo presentations. (ex. do a pres. on a med your client is taking). i hate presentations, i get so nervous...so nervous my heart is beating so fast (like i have been running a marathon) and then my voicer starts to shake cause its like i need to catch my breath or something, its crazy and i wish i could get over this fear. oh well i figure it happens and theres nothing i can do so if people are going to laugh at me i cant help it. good luck hope you dont get as nervous as i do!!~~ :)
