Nursing school presentations/projects

I'm in an ADN program. My 1st semester I was required to do drug cards for each unit and then prepare 1 care plan that was due at the end of the semester. No projects and no other papers.

My 2nd semester I had 2 group projects, one in maternal child/peds and another in our M/S class. Both were group (at least 2, one was 4) projects. We also had drug cards each unit and 1 care plan at the end. Our maternal/peds class also had 4 assessments that we did throughout the semester.

My 3rd semester in my Psych class I had a lot of paperwork: I had an assessment, drugs, careplan, process recording, etc.... In my M/S and M/C class I had the option to choose a topic for either class and present it alone (45-55 mins. long). I also had 2 or 3 really small care plans to do, so small they were very easy to complete in clinical. Both M/S and M/C required unit drug cards. Psych did not. I also had to complete a "special project" which mine was NCLEX questions for M/C that coresponded with the units we were discussing.

My final semester I will have to complete some stuff for my Leadership rotation, I will also have a teaching project to present in either M/C or M/S and then of course unit drug cards for both classes. I have no idea in my other 2 classes what paperwork I have. I also will have a special project yet again this fall, but that is NCLEX review at the end of the semester.

We did about three case studies in our clinical groups during the first semester. Lots of individual presentations of research articles and nursing care articles to our clinical groups for the entire program. We did a group project in pediatrics where we had to come up with a homemade toy, and then an individual project in OB relating to a community service for pregnant women and/or their families. I still have one semester left and I'm sure we'll be doing some more research articles and probably a project for our community health class. Oh yeah, I'm BSN.

We have had to more group and individual projects than I thought humanly possible. The group projects, I believe are to get you prepared for all of the collaborating you will do as a nurse. You really learn a lot about people when you have to work with them.

Our group projects have ranged from presenting nursing research to teaching a class session that we were actually tested on.

They aren't horrible, but you do get sick of them. I find the biggest two hassles are finding a time that works for everyone to get together and dealing with the people who do nothing.
