U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Okay I have been in school now for what seems like forever! I have applied for nursing school over 6 semester now and have still not gotten in. I am frustrated, upset and really disappointed. Is anyone else going through this?

I have a decent gpa 3.5, all A's in my math, and science prereqs and I don't know what to do anymore!

HELP

Where did you apply?

Where did you apply? You may want to expand your horizons to private institutions instead of only public, especially if you are looking for a BSN degree. I would highly recommend GA Baptist and Emory. Because they are private and more expense than public universities there is less volume. Also, these schools take into account the whole person, not just test scores and GPA. You are required to submit resume, essay, etc. with your application.

Don't give up!!

You might also want to apply to some schools that are located outside the metro atlanta area. If you are applying to KSU, I know they receive about 1000 applications for 25-50 spots. There is also a school lin North Georgia Brenau, they offer some programs. If money is an issue, check into hospital scholarships.

HELP

If you are trying to get into Kennesaw State, I hate to put it this way, but its next to impossible!!! I am not sure what they look for. You need to look for schools outside the Atlanta Area - do not limit yourself, expand your horizon to other schools, you might also wanna look into getting an ASN then bridging...getting into a BSN program in Atlanta is extremely competitive...try schools like North GA College and State, Gordon State, Dalton State...BEST of LUCK

I have heard getting into Georgia School were hard. I do agree about Georgia Baptist, they do seem to be more understanding. I have applied to a school in Phenix AL, and I will have to drive 1.5 hours but I can't wait until my lucky number comes up in Georgia. Actually, I atteneding Nursing school over 13 years ago in N.C. and had to stop my grade in my last class was a D and that is stopping me now 13 years later. I can't find anyone but Georgia Baptist that says you can try. So now I am just taking classes to bring up my GPA and hopefully in the fall of next year I will be ready.

Good luck

Sorry about the luck. I will tell you that I am starting Emory nursing school in the fall 07 and I was accepted with a 3.7 GPA, I already have 1 degree, but I made a C in Chemistry both semesters.

Best of Luck .....

I live in Georgia and they are difficult to get into. Make sure you're accepted before your sciences are 5 yrs old. You will have to redo them.

Abraham Baldwin College in tifton offers a rn program. You attend once a week, and the program is a yr.

Only once a week and the program is only a year. How do you get clinicals in? I will have to check that school out also. ARe you currently enrolled there?

KSU2007-I know this is an older posting but I feel your pain!! I origionally started out persuing the ASN degree at Augusta State. I attempted algebra too many times so I was told there's no way I can get in. I moved on to Aiken Tech in S.C. which is only about 25 minutes away. They have a cumulative GPA which they calculate for nursing admission (ADN). This GPA is based on my entire post high school history. I goofed up pretty bad when I first went off to college, so even though I've been on the Dean's List and have an institutional GPA of 3.52 I'm not competitive cumulatively because of past mistakes from years ago. I decided that since I have to take extra credit hours to elevate my GPA anyway, I might as well take the few I was lacking for my BSN. The good part about that is USC Aiken has a BSN program which considers several different factors. Aside from GPA, there is a short essay that you write explaining why you want to persue nursing, there are letters of reference to submit, and they also have a petition available for explaining any past mistakes you've made, how you've rectified them, and what your plan of action is for the future. I firmly believe it's worth the wait so hang in there! (and cross your fingers for me!)

Did you look into Georgia Highlands College? I will be starting there in the fall after being rejected by Kennesaw three times.
