Nursing theory = gobbledygook

Nursing Students Online Learning

Theory of self becoming, cosmic unity, unique and borrowed theory -

Is it just me or did someone on heavy drugs come up with this stuff?

I am in a distance learning program for my masters. The first course is on Theory. Now, Im sure in a classroom some of this might make more sense but the more I read and research, the less convinced I am that this is the way to advance our profession!!!

I would very much like to read more from people who think that a lot of this theory is CRAP. Unless you have something for me to read that might convince me otherwise.:uhoh3:

I will press on, get my masters, smoke some dope and write my own theory. Then I can get published, retire and someone else will have to study it in order to advance THEIR education.

I too am in grad school (online) and found theory tedious at best. Then, I took a look at these poor women - gee whiz did they have nothing better to do??? I think for their grad school projects they devised a nursing theory - lol. BTW Wendy - I do love your hole-istic theory!!!

Specializes in ER.

My first semester of nusing school, I nearly quit because I thought I could not suffer through three years of THAT kind of personal hell.

The class was something about developing as a professional.....it was all theory...and each day I was praying for cyanide laced Kool-Aid.

I'm glad I stuck with it long enough to realize that not EVERY class is that awful. I thought I would rip my hair out if I had to here one more person's analysis of the word "caring".

Lord help me! You mean to tell me you have to delve deeply into that abyss for grad school as well?

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Sadly, it doesn't get better. And I'm sure (if you dare) it lingers on at the Doctoral level :crying2: :crying2:
