Am a LPN and I want to go back to school for my RN. Online but need help picking a good school.

I'm not sure how you plan to do LPN to RN online. You will need supervised clinical hours. Doesn't seem like a good plan to me.

Here in the US, Excelsior College offers a distance based LPN-to-ASN degree program that leads to RN licensure. It is not accepted by all boards of nursing.

Indiana State University offers an online LPN-to-BSN degree program that leads to RN licensure, but again, it is not accepted by all state boards of nursing.

The only state that does not accept Excelsior LPN to RN is California. Some of the states require additional clinical time after completion of the program before they will let you sit for your boards.

I am finishing the LPN-RN program currently. I am preparing for the CPNE, which is basically a clinical evaluation. This is an accredited program, but is not for everyone. Pretty affordable until the end. The CPNE is around $2800.00, plus travel. A lot of people pass this the first time, but there are plenty of folks that fail and then, you pay all over again to retake. 3x = your out. Excelsior has worked great for me. Our hospitals here in New Mexico hire Excelsior grads. I checked into this prior to enrolling. Good luck!

The CPNE is $2,275. At being worth 8 credits, that's $284 per credit. Actually not that bad, if you look at it that way. :)

I live in buffalo, so I would be testing in Syracuse. Any obscene law suites heard from that neck of the woods? I see a lot of people saying the CPNE is about perfection but they are allowing you to fail an adult and a peds PCA, they're also allowing you to fail all the labs once to try a second attempt, this sounds very doable. The pass to fail ratio on there site for last year was 51% but I think that only counts for the first attempt. I messaged a couple people to tell me about there experiences but it seems like no one is getting back to me. Anyone know that website where you can read the "journals" of people who were successful :-)

Check out "Momma Maven"on Google, she really breaks down the CPNE. You are correct about the pass rates and the re-dos. Your allowed one do over on Lab station and one adult PCS and one Ped PCS do over. I have read that a lot of people pass with no do overs, then again, I have read people have failed for something like an incorrect BP. I stopped reading the negative stuff and am focusing on being positive for my future test. I am sure you will pass, no problem!!! Good luck!👍

Exactly! You must think positive, this is self paced too so you can prepare for however long you want and make sure you are 100% on skills, assessments and documentation. It will take dedication and drive but if you really want it anything is possible. Keep in touch and let me know how you progress in the program, we can even bounce questions back and forth! I'm submitting my application in next week.

Did you take your CPNE ? I heard it takes about 6 to 9 months to get in to clinical is this true?

I submitted my application and it was accepted. I did the RPAC so that I can test asap. I will be attending Sheri Taylor's workshop in early April. Fingers crossed that it is as good as I have read.
