I received my packet from Deaconess

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I am wondering how do you obtain clinical experience? The packet just talks about web based learning. Does anyone have an answer for me. I am going to try and call them Monday but I also wanted to know...............I am currently in a ADN Nursing program (my second semester). Would they accept any of my nursing courses towards credit in their program?

You would do your clinicals in a hospital in your community. As far as giving you credit for your nursing courses you'd have to speak to them about that.

I remember talking to my local University recently and the Dean told me that it was very difficult to transfer nursing courses for them. I guess different nursing programs can have totally different nursing curriculums. But it certainly doesn't hurt to try.

Good Luck

Hi szccdw,

As with any courses in any college that you want considered for transfer, it is always up to the school that you are going into. It can't hurt to ask.

As for clinical, I think the someone previously posted that you need to find a clinical preceptor in a hospital in your area. One note, a site for clinical must be a hospital with all departments, OB, peds etc. A long term care facility is not a choice for clinical with Deaconess.

I think you will have most of your quesitons answered very honestly and politely when you call the school. I can only say very nice things about everyone I have dealt with so far.

Good luck in your decision and let us all know how you are doing.

I spoke to Deaconess today and they said they would give consideration for the nursing courses I've already taken as long as they were passed with a C or better and they were. I just have to send in a copy of the syllabus from the courses so that they can review them and figure out what they will give me credit for. I forgot to ask them how many hours of clinical do they want you to do per semester/quarter (I don't know what system they are on, may need to ask that too)? If anyone happens to know please post a reply. thanks

Hi szccdw,

The clinical hours currently are as follows:

PN component

Sem III Nursing Life Span I - 180hrs

SemIV " " " " II - 225hrs

ASN Component

Sem I Phys Alter in Adults - 90 hrs

Sem II Nursing Life Span III - 90 hrs

Sem III " " " IV - 90 hrs

If you are entering the program with LPN licensure and you begin at the ASN component, then each of the three semesters you would be doing a 90hr clinical rotation. That is 90hrs spread out over the entire semester.

Does that help?

Thank you all for all the information that you've given me.

You are welcome.

I wish you the best as you pursue your career!
