Student Nurses and Clinical Funnies

  1. A clinical class had just arrived at our nursing home and some of the nursing students noticed that the nurses were all wearing pins on their uniforms. They had noticed that the pins were shaped like apples.
"Excuse me, " a student said to a RN. "Every nurse has a pin on that looks like an apple. Did you all graduate from the same nursing school?"
"Oh, no," answered the RN. "We wear them to keep the doctors away!"

    A Doctor & Nurse and a Shredder

A nurse was leaving the hospital one evening when she found the doctor standing in front of a shredder with a piece of paper in his hand.

"Listen", said the doctor, "this is important and my assistant has left. Can you make this thing work?"

"Certainly", said the nurse, flattered that the doctor had asked her for help.

She turned the machine on, inserted the paper and pressed the start button.

"Excellent! Excellent!" said the doctor as his paper disappeared inside the machine.

"I need two copies of that"

A nurse at the beginning of the shift places her stethoscope on an elderly and slightly deaf female patient's anterior chest wall. "Big breaths," instructed the nurse. "Yes, they used to be," remarked the patient.

Recently the administrator decided we took to long to pass out the hall trays at meal times. He also thought that the excuse of "no one told us they were here" wasn't good enough, so he came up with the idea of a baton. It's just a gold cylinder about a foot long and 2-3 inches in diameter. The dietary staff has to give it to either an aide if they can find one, or a nurse. Often times they glance up and down the hall, then just leave it on the desk.

One day a guy from the physical therapy department was at the desk while the baton was sitting on it. As I was walking by pushing the cart of trays he asked "What's this for?" to which I responded "every time someone asks what that it is, we get to hit them with it."

In school my study partner had a different clinical group than me. There was one male student that was very intelligent in lecture and always commented and asked questions above most of the classes head. My study partner was in this young mans clinical group and told me that at clinical one day a few of them were invited to assess a patient with a staff nurse, while in the patient room the nurse asked the young man (student nurse) to run and get a soap sud enema. he didn't return after a few minutes so the nurse sent my study partner to see what the hold up was. The hold up was that the young man was looking in the janitors closet where the mops and buckets were for the SOAP suds enema. I got a good laugh out of that one.
