think its called 'Higher Love', by Steve Winwood. When he sings 'bring me a higher love' my Mum says it sounds like 'bring me an iron lung!!'

also the balck parade by my chemical romance, all based on the journey of a patient. Of course its a wee bit dark!! I love that band but I was always wondering why they kept going on about hospital beds, pills and ambulances...swore it was just the nursing course getting to me!!

Some country song & I can't even remember who sings it...

if you're going through hell keep on moving
face that fire, walk right through it
    you might get out
'fore the devil even knows you're there.

...course that kind of applies to life in general at this point!!

    Rodney Atkins sings that song.

A couple of songs that come to mind are: Bad Medicine by Bon Jovi ...when you find your medicine you take what you can get cause if theres something better baby well they havent found it yet.

Then theres the song by Rascall Flatts called Sarah Beth. (I work on an oncology floor and it reminds me of how scared the patients are right after learning they have cancer.)

"Last Dance With Mary Jane" by Tom Petty-for our underage huffers and puffers that come in from time to time.

"Don't Come Around Here No More" by Tom Petty-for frequent flyers. That video from the 80's really freaked me out as a kid.

"All Jacked Up" by Gretchen Wilson-for the ETOH involved MVA or ETOH involved assault.

"Insane In The Membrane" by Cypress Hill-for our MEs.

    It's All About The He-Said-She-Said Bullsh*t" by Limp Bizkit-for domestic abuse pts.:trout:

"Why Can't We Be Friends?" by ?-for the demanding pita drugseeking dredge of society in your triage room with foot pain x3 mos wanting to know why that "whiny a$$" little kid" (peds fever that seized before we got her into triage) went back before he did.:angryfire

"Like A Virgin" by Madonna-for the "immaculate conception" pregnant women (how can I be pregnant?).

"Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places" by ? -works for intubations, pelvic exams, and enemas.

My ACLS instructors told us to think of the BeeGees song "Stayin' Alive" to get the right rhythm for compressions during a code.

    And it bears repeating.......
"twenty, twenty, twenty-four hrs ago, I wanna be sedated" Sedated by the Ramones (actually, my husband has that as the ringtone for when I call him.)

Whenever a death affects me a little bit more than average, cuz I got attached or it was sudden, I have to play Dont Fear the Reaper at cerebral hemmorage volume and sob my eyes out, and then Im better. Very few hard rock bands have the poetic depth of Blue Oyster Cult, and I can think of no other song that embraces death without being maudlin.

For that patient with chest pain: My achey breaky heart.

When I work with traveler nurses I ALWAYS get this song in my head:
"I love to go a wandering along the mountain track and as I go I love to sing, my backpack on my back.....Vallereeeeeee, Vallerraaaaaah, Vallereeeeee, Valer rahahahahahaha.....etc!!!
I sing that song in my head all night when a traveler is around!!! ...weird, huh?

For that patient with a fever:

"I fell into a burning ring of fire and it burns, burns, burns and the flames went higher.....
