I would try a hospital job as it might be less stressful than a nursing home. Nursing homes are totally stressful even for an experienced LPN. I don't know what the salary is in LA.

I completed an LVN program in the Los Angeles area 2 years ago before moving away from California. After receiving my license, I decided to work at a nursing home for a number of reasons. First of all, I wanted nothing to do with acute care. Secondly, I wanted to work at a place that had a slower pace. Lastly, nursing homes tend to pay LVNs more money than hospitals in my area.
I left California in late 2005. At that time, Kaiser Hospital was offering LVNs a starting pay rate of $17 hourly. Olive View Medical Center was offering a base salary of $2,550 monthly. Most nursing homes were offering $20+ hourly. Northeast Valley Health Center was a unionized family practice clinic that offered $15 hourly.

Ive been looking around for about a month know and its anywhere from $16-$25 an hour. The low side being hospital and the high range being a nursing home.

I would work at a hospital if you could. The base pay is usually a little lower at first, but hospitals usually have really good shift and weekend differentials, higher pay raises, and better benefits and perks than a nursing home.

When I finish the LVN program at my CC I would really love to work at a hospital-post partum or possibly the ER!!! my friend told me that one of her friends is in the LVN program right now and she is doing a rotation in the ER!!! The stories I have heard about nursing homes scares me, I do not want to become overwhelmed with patients and screw up.

I also completed clinical rotations in L&D, postpartum, and the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit).
However, schools give you clinical time in these areas to fulfill legal clock hour requirements. Just because you've spent clinical time in a certain area doesn't mean you can reasonably expect to be hired onto the job of your dreams upon graduation.

If I can, I would love to work in a hospital but I would love to also work in a Nursing Home too. I just want to be a Nurse, I am sorry if I offended anyone I was not talking down about Nursing Homes so again I am sincerely sorry. I realize that after I finish Nursing school I am not going to necessarily get my dream job but if I can it would be great!!! Any advice on how successfully survive and pass LVN Nursing school but be greatly appreciated:o:monkeydance:
