Hi, everyone! I'm just finding this thread a couple days ago. I am a SC BSN nursing student. While my application is still under review I have not received a credit check yet. As time is winding down I'm getting very impatient and frustrated because there is a good chance that I won't get the scholarship. Prayer is the only thing that I'm holding onto now.
I have yet to meet another person from SC! Which part of SC are you from? And keep praying! I have my fingers crossed for all those who are still waiting.
Hello everyone! I just read through the 40+ pages in this forum. I wish I could have found it earlier to follow along with all of you.Congratulations to those who have received the scholarship and good luck to those who are still waiting to hear back. There is still plenty of time.
I received my finalist email August 8th around 12 AM and just checked my credit karma and saw that they did check my credit on 7/29. I will be attending an accelerated BSN program at Concordia College in NY. My GPA is 3.6, EFC is 0, and focused my essay on my experience as an AmeriCorps member.
My only concern is that I may have gone way ahead of myself once i received the finalist e-mail. I went ahead and canceled my private loan (which funny enough had just been approved a couple days prior) they say that even if your a finalist the award is still not guaranteed. Any advise?
Thanks, A
Congratulations on being a finalist! So, if I were you, I would go ahead and apply for that loan again. I haven't cancelled my loan yet because I have heard that disbursement of funds typically occurs after the start of school (I start next Monday). Any monies you use from the loan for this semester will be reimbursed by HRSA if you are awarded the scholarship.
I agree with mocapoca. Although I'm confident that finalists will receive the scholarship, funds will not be disbursed until November. Once you recieve final confirmation of the scholarship, you can send it to your financial aid office to defer payments... But who knows when HRSA will send the confirmation?

Yeah I never heard of a finalist not receiving the award! I am also confident that the participant email will be coming soon. Last year someone received theirs on the 27th of August. After that, I have no idea how long it took for the funds to kick in...everyone stopped posting after they got the participant email or the rejection letter.
Oh no I did reach out to the financial aid office to let them know about the scholarship since the first payment towards tuition was due august 10th. I asked the counselor if I should cancel my private loan and she said yes, not to worry about the payment due because it will be noted in their system that a scholarship will be coming in. I also read something within the scholarship guidelines document that they can only repay a loan for the summer and fall semester, and my loan was for the whole year. Maybe I should have just reduced the amount to only cover the fall semester.

Hopefully someone will chime in concerning your situation. I'm not really up to date with financial aid and loans. This is the first time that I have ever taken out a loan and I still don't know all the ins and outs of it.
Hi all, so I just wanted to chime in on what info I know so far. Someone correct if I am wrong, but if you have taken out a loan for the school the scholarship payments will be going towards that loan. I had no other choice, but to accept the federal loan for my school which was for the amount of the whole school year since I started classes in the summer.
It's now the end of August and I feel like I won't receive the scholarship. I'm a bit upset but I am really trying to be positive but yet realistic. Congratulations to everyone that received the scholarship and best of luck to everyone still waiting. Remember everything happens for a reason and that there is always next year.

Best of luck to you with the scholarship and nursing school!!
They will backpay you for any covered costs, even if it is on a loan, back to July 1st (prorated for the summer term if it started before July 1st). I was told that once it is switched from "In Final Review" to "Participant," it will be 60 days until they disburse the funds. So, I'm planning on continuing on with the loans as they pay back the covered costs, but NOT the interest that has accrued.
Also, for everyone worrying about the credit check, I was offered the finalist spot and I have yet to be credit checked. Makes me a little nervous, but perhaps they use credit as a final determination? I don't know, totally speculating there as I did not inquire over the phone.
It looks like if you are offered the finalist spot, and then all of your paperwork is submitted in the timeframe, and it all checks out after they look back through everything (that you crossed all your t's and dotted all your i's), the secretary will sign it by the end of September and then funds are disbursed 60 days later. I was "advised" by HRSA that once finalists submit their documents, it usually takes between 1 and 3 weeks for it to be reviewed, signed, and our status to change on the website! At that time, count down your 60 day's for all your monies, including back payments for stipends, tuition, ORC, books, fees, etc.
Also, when looking through the previous years posts on all nurses, people were being offered scholarships up to the end of September AND BEYOND sometimes. They just keep moving down the list one name at a time as money is available. Schools certify specific amounts for what we will receive, which then can free up the allocated funds for additional scholarships! DON'T become despondent! Don't give up! Don't drop out! You might have to deal with loans for this first two months of school, but you might still get funded! Plus, then you'll already be on your way to becoming a nurse!! Imagine how devastated you would be if you got offered the money a day after the school processed your drop papers!
Feel free to message me if you want specific details too!
Best of luck.
