Nursing at College of the Rockies

Published

Hey I was just wondering if anyone has any information on whether or not COTR (College of the Rockies in Cranbrook BC) has a good nursing program? its part of the CAED program...which means you switch to UVIC after your third year there. Thanks!

Hi,

I am a third year nursing student at College of the Rockies. I have enjoyed my program here so far and I would recommend it as a good nursing program. The small classroom sizes allow for one on one time with instructors, this also allows flexibility for the instructors to ask feedback and integrate our feedback into the classroom outline. There is lots of opportunity for various placements sometimes we do only get 1 or 2 days in different areas but we still get to gain experience and insight into different parts of the hospital and community.

I do not have many complaints about the program and I hope this information helps.

Thanks so much for your input, i've been searching all over the internet and haven't found any reviews or opinions until now. one more question - for the bachelor's of science in nursing, don't you have to switch to UVIC after 2.5 years?

thanks so much!

Hey guys, I know this thread is old, but I'd love to ask you guys some questions about COTR... There's no private messaging on these forums, but if we could communicate via email or facebook, that would be very appreciated! Thanks!

You have to have 15 or more posts to be able to PM. It looks like the OPs in this thread never came back.

Hey Strutter91,

I've been looking into COTR and I'm hoping to get in. Did you get in? If so would you mind telling me your GPA?

thanks! :)

hello! does anyone know if it is a competitive program to get it? its in concordance with uvic isnt it?

Hey,

It's not competitive to get into, you just the minimum requirements. If you meet the minimum requirements, they'll put you on the waitlist. I emailed them the other day, and there is currently about 130 people on the waitlist. They take in 32 people every September, and that's the only intake. So it looks like it could be quite the wait. I'm going to apply to get my name on that list, just in case I can't get in anywhere else. I imagine lots of people who are on the list will find other schools, so it shouldn't be quite as long.

Worst place to study. One teacher failed me in my third year not because I did anything wrong but because she thought I shouldn't be a nurse and called me stupid. I couldn't get in to any other nursing schools so I had to move to Australia to finish my degree.

This is the worst thing I’ve ever read. I’m sorry she said this about you.

hey did you report this teacher ??
also why would she call you this, was it because she’s being discriminatory to you or any racist undertones towards you?

this seriously pisses me off but hey you got to experience a whole different place in Australia now

I want to apply to this school but I’m scared they will come after me as I’m very shy / awkward during beginning of the semester
