Nursing And Celebrities..........

Published

Just curious if any of you guys have encountered any celebrities during your nursing career and if so how often did you meet one????

Where they easy to care for????:uhoh3::uhoh3:

Tks for sharing your story.

Being that I'm from Green Bay, I've taken care of several well-known professional football players and their families- never had a problem with any of them, they were all pretty low-key.

I took care of a famous dancer from 60's. She was very kind and greatful. It was in a home care setting so we had plenty of time to be one on one. We reminise about good old days. It was a very pleasant experince. I thanked her for sharing it with me and I think it made her happy to talk about that time of her life.

I lived in Vegas for a couple of years and gee whiz - the celebs come out of the wood-work. I was an LPN at the time and my only brush with a celebrity was that I got to go empty a foley - lol.

Most were very nice...it was a for-profit hospital where the plush carpet was replaced twice a year!

I took care of a celebrity from before my time (Brat-Pack). Gracious family. Even wrote a beautiful letter to the hospital about the care they received from me. Made my day... even if they hadn't been VIP.

Here's a slightly different perspective.

My first job out of pharmacy school was at a mail order facility, and shortly before they relocated their operations :o, we got the Screen Actors Guild contract. That was quite an interesting experience. We had all these Beverly Hills Dr. Feelgoods to deal with, and one day I spent an afternoon calling movie stars to ask them about their drug allergies.

There was a leading man who we knew was terminally ill 6 months before it hit the supermarket tabloids (he did use his real name).

I don't recall any celebrities causing problems, but the non-stars who thought they could get fun meds from us? That was another story.

I now work at one of the hospitals that made Dr. Michael Swango infamous. Everyone who was there at the time has a story about him - and not a good one, either.

Specializes in Community Health, Med-Surg, Home Health.

I have had local politicians, but no celebrities to brag over. I really don't like working with the politicians, because we have to bend over backwards for them, doing things that are clearly not done for the average patient in our facility. Some were appreciative, others were not. I worry too much about other breathing down my neck to appreciate them much.

Specializes in Hospice, Med/Surg, ICU, ER.

A rock star from a well-known group's early years is a frequent patient... and a nicer guy you'll never meet.

You never know! Decades ago there was a pt. at the psych facility where I worked who claimed to have played with the Grateful Dead. Everyone shook their head and said "Yeah - right!" until Jerry Garcia came to visit him!
