Nursing & Pre-Nursing Students Fall 2009!!!

Published

hello allnurses!

just starting a thread for any nursing or pre-nursing students heading to class for the fall 2009 season!

hopefully this can be a place where we can all introduce ourselves as well as the school & program we'll be attending this year.

congratulations to all the prospective nurses out there! :yeah:

Congratulations to all you guys who received your letters of acceptance.

Very good...your hard work thus far has been rewarded.

Like a few others, I 've been visiting this site as a non-member to have an understanding of what it means to

be a nurse: through the eyes of those who actually work in this profession. I found the visits to be very informative and I've always had to return for more. It's a great place for students, and nurses alike.

I have been accepted into General Arts & Science (science option) community college program starting next fall.

After two years, upon sucessful completion of the pre-requisites I will be guaranteed a place into the 2nd year BSc.Nursing degree program. I'm excited about.

I hope us pre-nursing student can keep this unit tight. I suspect we're gonna need each other for moral support.

Malef.... I appreciate you taking the initiative to start this thread. Good luck !!

Hey there! Just found this message board...I've applied to the nursing program this fall 2009 as well. They tell me I should hear something by mid-June. Still have 3 classes left to finish my degree, but have finished all of the pre-req.'s This is my 2nd degree, I also have a BS in Nutrition. I went back to school after 21 yrs. Its been a real challenge, but I'm enjoying it. I'm taking microbiology this summer. There are 4 or 5 nursing students in my class who just finished their 1st year in the program - I have to admit, they are less than encouraging.(I'm being nice) Quite frankly, they are scaring me to death! Why do they do that? I was relieved when I found this group because I think its so important to encourage each other and not tear each other down. Maybe its some sort of "hazing ritual" I don't know! :o) Good Luck to everyone!

Hi all! I just found this forum and so glad I did! I'm going back to school to become an RN and I'm 27 so I really want to make the right decision; it's a complete 360 to what I'm doing now (digital animation). This site is so useful because it gives a better idea of what nurses actually do and what we'll be going through as Nursing students.

Anywho, I am on Vancouver Island too and just applied for the 4 year Nursing program. I have to attend an informational meeting in June and then I'll be put on the wait list. It will be about a 1-2 year wait :(. I'm really hoping to get in the Fall 2010 uptake. Until then, I'll be taking some Biology classes next year since I can get those out of the way and make the nursing program a little lighter. I have all the pre-reqs and electives done already since I've been to college previously. Good luck everyone!!

Hello everyone!

I have been accepted into the UofA nursing program through Grande Prairie Regional college. I am excited and nervous to start in the fall! I have been upgrading for a couple of years. Having a family while I go to school is going to be challenging, but I know I can do it!

Good luck to everyone this fall!:yeah:

Congrats 2ndgoose on your acceptance! I know that you're probably excited, nervous, & overwhelmed! That will be my feelings should I get accepted in June! :o) I have the same worries about juggling nursing school & family. You'll have to keep in touch & let me know how you're doing...As an older student (45 yrs. ) I need all of the support I can get!

Best of luck to you! I know you can do it! :o)

I am also a "mature" student, I think we can take a little comfort in the fact that we have been around longer! And yes, I will keep in touch! You as well!

Hello everyone!stethescope.png

I was accepted in a conjoint program from Collège Boréal and Laurentian University. After completing one year of studies in health promotion and having no challenge, decided to apply for nursing and got accepted. I'm looking forward to start and can't wait for the intellectual stimulation.

Hey V-Man! Congratulations on your acceptance! I should be hearing something in the next few weeks. Our program is very competitive & there are many applicants and only 54 slots available. Its a points system. I have all of my points & a 4.0 GPA - however, I still have to sit through the "lottery". :o) So....I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Wish me luck! Good luck to you in yours...I know you'll do fantastic!

I am also still waiting for a letter. They are supposed to be sent out this week or next and it's driving my crazy! It seems like most people have already recieved their letters, it's nice to know someone is suffering along with me (Sunny). LOL! Good luck, fingers crossed!!

Hey Busy Bee! Have you called your advisor? I would. If others are receiving their letters & you haven't, I would definetely go ask about it. Ssome of the nursing students said that I could go up & ask on the nursing "floor" and they would tell me if I got in...but I just can't go. I just can't. I'd rather wait for the letter! Isn't that sick?! :oP I know you'll get in! Good Luck...I'm senging you good thoughts!

Hi Sunny, thanks for the good thoughts! I called the registrar's office last week to make sure they recieved all of my transcripts from the college (where I took my pre req's) because I hadn't heard anything either way and they said they had, and my file was "all set" and that the nursing committee wasn't meeting until the last week of May to make their admission decisions so I should have an answer by the first week of June or so.

It is a collaborative program with the college which I took my pre req's at. You can either take 2 yrs college/2 yrs U, or all 4 yrs at the U, the out come is the same degree. I have already been accepted to the college/U program, so the pressure is off, but I would rather take the program all 4yrs at the U so we shall see. Best of luck!

I'm also waiting to hear from Laurentian. I haven't heard anything since I applied. I called them a few weeks ago and was told they look at high school students' applications first and then deal with transfer students. And then they give admissions to transfers based on how many spots they have left (of course I'm sure they'll look at marks first and then the number of spots left). I was also told I would hear from them by the end of this month, and there're two working days left for this month, so...aarrgh. This's just driving me up the wall. I've been checking the mail like crazy the past few days and waiting anxiously, lol. Guess I just want to know what my fate is.
