NP program at University of Windsor (Canada)
I am starting the BScNursing program at St. Clair college/U of Windsor this fall. I am also a mature student (29). I am sooo excited to begin! I wish you the best of luck in your program. How many yrs is the NP program? I would love to continue on after I am finished with my program and take the NP also. We shall see. I am sure after 4yrs of school I will be itching to take a break and get some experience under my belt before I go for my NP! Any advice for a newbie nursing student??

Nursing & Pre-Nursing Students Fall 2009!!!
Hi Sunny, thanks for the good thoughts! I called the registrar's office last week to make sure they recieved all of my transcripts from the college (where I took my pre req's) because I hadn't heard anything either way and they said they had, and my file was "all set" and that the nursing committee wasn't meeting until the last week of May to make their admission decisions so I should have an answer by the first week of June or so. It is a collaborative program with the college which I took my pre req's at. You can either take 2 yrs college/2 yrs U, or all 4 yrs at the U, the out come is the same degree. I have already been accepted to the college/U program, so the pressure is off, but I would rather take the program all 4yrs at the U so we shall see. Best of luck!

College or University Program
I am looking for some advice on weather there is a difference between college and university. I have been accepted to the local community college BscNursing program which is a collaborative program with the local U. You take 2 yrs of college and 2 yrs of U. But if I get accepted at the U (which I am expecting to be, I have a 4.0 in my pre-req's:yeah:) you take all 4 yrs at the U. My question is for anyone who has been through the programs, or currently in the program, does it really make a difference where I go? At the end of it I will still have the same degree no matter where I start the program. I have heard a lot of people say they would rather take the first 2 yrs at the college because of smaller class sizes, I am just wondering if the U would have more to offer. Opinions???

Acceptance to Ontario BScN program??
I am in the exact same position as you! I have also been out of school for 10 yrs and am currently taking the courses requiered to apply as a mature student in the fall of 09. My highschool marks were ok (low 80's) except for grade 12 math which I bombed (54) I am sooooo stressed about that mark. I hope they dont put too much weight on highschool marks. I was told that in order to apply as a mature student all you needed to take was bio 1 and 2 and chem 1 and 2 and have a minimum of 70% in all 4 courses. In bio 1 and chem 1 I ended up with low 90's and hope to do the same in bio 2 and chem 2. My fingers are crossed for you!!!

Pre-Nursing Program @ Ontario Colleges?
I can relate. I am presently upgrading through co ed at night and am applying at st.clair and the u of windsor as a mature student. I talked to the pre nursing advisor at the college who said that yes the minimum requirment is a B to get into nursing (3.0), the cut off last year ended up being a 3.8 because as RN2B stated, its becoming a more popular program and the competition is getting tougher. I am so nervous, I have completed my fall semester with a 4.0 and begin my winter semester next week. My applications are all sent out and now the wait begins. Good luck to you!!

Any Canadian Pre-Nursing students out there?
I am!! Presently I am taking Biology 1 (online) and Chemistry 1 Tuesday evenings. I am a mature student so I only need to take 2 biology and 2 chemisty classes to apply to the RN program at my local U. I hope to start the RN program in the fall '09. It is pretty competitive so I need to get A's in order to get accepted. The cutoff this year was 3.8 gpa! I am working hard and keeping my fingers crossed!

I almost changed my major because of chem...
Chem freaks me out too! I will be taking it in the fall. I have been out of school for a while also, but my highschool chemistry mark still haunts me. If I could only pull a C- in highschool chemistry, how the heck am I gonna surivive college level chemistry??!! I have to maintain at least a B average to get into the BScN program I know that I am much more mature and focused now but still......
