Hello "allnurses" subscribers! Starting a thread for any Nursing students heading to class for the Fall 2013 season! Hopefully this can be a place where we can introduce ourselves as well as the school & program we'll be attending this year. Today I received a welcome package for the St. Lawrence College / Laurentian University collaborative BScN starting September 2013! (Previously I attended the Practical Nursing program at Algonquin College graduating in 2011 so I am very excited to continue my nursing education!) Best wishes for those waiting to hear & congratulations to all the prospective nurses out there. I'd love to hear your offers and plans for 2013!!!

oy, i wrote out a post and lost it alas, hello! i cannot speak for your school however at algonquin college exams just finished writing on thursday. i just finished writing my finals for a pre-health program i was taking in order to meet the prereq's needed for the january 2010 intake of pn. on friday our marks were being submitted to the registrars office and then on monday they will begin sending out complete acceptance letters so i wouldn't worry yet, but perhaps monday check your ocas or call the school to get your status. i too am currently only conditionally accepted but once all marks are in from fall semester i'm sure you'll see something happen before christmas, algonquin is working right up till noon on christmas eve :) monday will be the day i'll be looking for something! good luck!

hello, it sounds like you may have to do some upgrading in order to begin your bridging but i know algonquin college & ottawa u offer a collaborative degree as well as a bridging program. http://algonquincollege.com/healthandcommunity/programs_full.htm i'm not certain but i thought you needed your pn diploma in order to begin, not the certificate. most schools will book you in for an appointment to give you information but aren't interested in giving it over the phone or email. i met with kent at the academic access center on campus and he got me sorted out and explained what i needed and how to get where i wanted to go. they are wonderful and you can find their website below! http://www.algonquincollege.com/access/academic.htm good luck!

hello again everyone! sorry i was mia after starting this thread, the logic board on my laptop fried and i was without technology for some time alas, i have returned! for me things changed a bit, i had accepted to the pre-bscn program at algonquin college for fall of 2009. however shortly after accepting i was laid off from my full time job, a job that was imperative in financing my journey back to school. after much research i discovered the second career program, since this program is limited in support they would not cover my desired pathway to becoming an rn but they would assist me in a 2 year training program. i decided to go with the practical nursing program at algonquin college, however i still needed pre-requisites! this is where i am now, i am in my 3rd month of the preparation for health sciences program @ algonquin with only 1 month to go before finishing my prereq's. i have also been granted conditional acceptance for the january 2010 intake of practical nursing! :roll it'll be the long way round but eventually i will bridge to the rn program once i have been out working in the field and have the funding to go ahead. so now that i have given you all an update i would love to hear how you all are doing since we are winding down the fall semester! :loveya:

hello allnurses! just starting a thread for any nursing or pre-nursing students heading to class for the fall 2009 season! hopefully this can be a place where we can all introduce ourselves as well as the school & program we'll be attending this year. congratulations to all the prospective nurses out there!

I'm not yet a nurse, hopefully on the way to being a nursing student this fall but I do volunteer at a LTC facility. During our orientation we were told the patients at this location could have arrangements made to facilitate conjugal visits. The nursing staff would get a request from a patient and they would go about setting up a room for them, making sure they were not disturbed, had a call button, were comfortable etc. It was just a basic overview to let us know this does take place and to be aware. They also stressed that these patients had sexual rights just like anyone else and we should let someone know if we were not comfortable so they could give us a more in depth briefing on the topic.

i didn't know this! eeep! really? the mail service at my apartment is atrocious, i swear even my birthday card was taken from my mail box! this is awesome thanks for pointing that out! i'll for sure start looking on thursday compulsively till friday!!!

if i don't get into algonquin then it'll be st. lawrence. it's a better curriculum then loyalist, closer to the boyfriend and kingston is a beautiful city! plus i know someone who went through the practical nursing program at another campus but still had good things to say about the administration. algonquin already sent a notice saying that offers of admission for the pre-nursing program wouldn't be out until after march 5th. the school actually called me to verify my address so they could mail me that notice so i know i just have to be patient and hope for the best! i'd love to see it friday but more then likely i won't see it till next monday.

i went to high school on the east coast and we did not have oac so mark differential does not apply to me although i have heard about it. i did apply with my high school marks and sophomore year i had english, math, & biology and senior year i had math & english. i should also say that loyalist/brock is only my last choice because of distance, that and i do not know anyone in belleville or st. catherines!! ideally i'd like to get into algonquin pre-nursing, then apply for the collaborative degree with ottawau as well as apply directly for the bscn @ upei which is where i am from. i'd love to return home to spend some time with my family and what better excuse then to study! &... when i returned home today i had mail! an information packet from my 2nd choice; st. lawrence college. inside was also an offer of admission!! yay! 2 for 3! they have pre-health science pre-bscn and i didn't have any chemistry which is why i didn't think i would get accepted. phew, now we wait for word on the highly competitive programs!

so you applied for the pre-nursing at algonquin? i got my letter of offer back from loyalist and was accepted to their pre-health program which preps you for the bscn collaborative degree with brock university but they are my last choice. i recieved a letter from algonquin informing me both the programs i applied for there were highly competitive and that letters of offer would be in the mail in march, so yes! that long! a whole month! i wish you luck too & also hope we both get in!!!!

ruralgirl08 thanks for your input! i'm happy to hear the pre-nursing program helped get you into "education mode" being out of school so long and having terrible habits when i was in school are two of the major motivators to take this program. i would rather be prepared for first year bscn then struggle as a mature student and possibly flunk out. i want a route that will give me the best chance of being successful. right now i am working 2 jobs in hopes of racking up enough for tuition and books and then work p/t while in the pre-nursing program to cover my living expenses. i'd rather avoid osap for the pre-nursing only because i know 4 years of university where i will not have the option to work will be a massive financial strain once i get out of school and any little bit less on a loan helps. right now i am just anxious i will not get in, i sent my application back in november and offers don't go out until march! just over a month of waiting and i am so queasey just thinking i may not get in which will set me back a year. are you working in ottawa now or have you moved out of the city since becoming an rn?
