Thank you guys! And yes, they are affiliated with my University. In fact SGMC just gave my university a million dollars... That is where we will be doing clinicals and everything...so, I'm guessing it may be on the university's website? How does one go about getting their CNA? I will be in Valdosta, Georgia this August... but the tech there doesnt offer it...

Seeing as to how SGMC does not have an email, I am having to mail them. Does this sound okay (and respectful, not noisy or pushy?) To whom it may concern, I am very interested in becoming a Registered Nurse. I am starting my Pre-Nursing program at Valdosta State University this fall. I have heard that South Georgia Medical Center offers some sort of scholarship that gives students studying to become registered nurses some help in their education. I have heard that in agreement the student comes back to work for SGMC after they have graduated with a BSN for 2-3 years in exchange for the scholarship/forgivable loan. Can I get more information on that? Also, if I may ask, what does a Registered Nurse make hourly as SGMC and do you offer shift differentials? Any information will be greatly appreciated. So, is anyone on here starting their pre-nursing BSN program this Fall or am I alone? I wish I could. There is no short program here to become a CNA. The hospital here no longer accept volunteers because they do all of that in May... I even looked in Valdosta, where I will be earning a BSN, and they offer it but it is like a semester long ordeal. And I'm not sure how I can pull that off with classes (15 credit hours). I will hopefully be volunteering at the hospital in Valdosta. It is the hospital that I will be doing clinicals at.

Yes, I am really considering buying that to learn. And, you start clinicals before ever really learning about nursing?

I have a declared major of Pre-Nursing... I start classes August 18th. I know absolutely nothing about nursing. Heck, I cannot even find someone's blood pressure (I tried in anatomy). But I know nothing about the ins and outs of a nurse's day. Did anyone go into Pre-Nursing absolutely clueless about the field? That is the only thing that I am really anxious and worried about. That I will be the only person that has a major of Pre-Nursing and knows absolutely nothing. Random: And when do you do clinicals and what are they like?

Well, I have been and still kind of am, stuck between teaching high school Biology and going into nursing. So, I am still trying to get that figured out. Oddly enough, I am very anxious when it comes to hospitals and public speaking. I have taught a 5th grad Spanish class and fell in love with teaching completely. I have been present for my niece and nephew's births. I loved the labor and delivery floor and the post partum floor. And, having been born 3 months and 4 days early...I really would love to work in a level 2 or 3 NICU. Medicine fascinates me. I know I want to work with people and help them. My other posts have been trying to figure out different parts of nursing: salary, job requirements, etc. I have done the same with teaching...and I know a lot, if not all there is to know about teaching. And am trying to do the same with nursing.

What are the responsibilities of a nurse working on a post partum floor? What does their day typically consist of?

I am very fearful of hospitals. If I get in a hallway or smell something different I get really anxious and start passing out and whatnot. ITs just an anxiety I think... But, if I want to be a nurse, is that something I can overcome? I would HATE to get in nursing school and have this problem and be kicked out or whatever. Advice? Ideas?

Can ya'll let me in on a night in your NICU? I know nothing about how things are done/what is done/how you know what do, etc. So the more specific the better... From charting, an admission, bathing, feeding, etc. (I'm starting college this Fall and my heart lies in the NICU. They saved my life 18 years ago...) And after I get out of college (4 years from now) I will be going back to work for (hopefully) the NICU that I was in for the 3 months at birth. So, I'm totally curious as to ya'lls night....

4 years left, lol. I'm thrilled to soon graduate high school. When should I talk to TMH about the student loan repayment?

I'm starting college this August....and just looking into different hospitals right now....because several are offering student loan repayment. I really want to work with babies (either in Labor and Delivery, post partum, or the NICU). I either want to work for: Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, Capital Regional Medical Center, or South Georgia Medical Center. I am not sure if Capital Regional offers the student loan repayment... TMH offers $16,000 and South Georgia Medical offers I believe $12,000 I will lay out pros and cons of each... TMH: Has a wonderful new women's pavillion that is in a seperate building than the main hospital. They have the typical mother baby care and a level 3 NICU. They have a security officer 24 hrs a day who is stationed at a desk as soon as you enter the front door. The pay is like $18.30 an hour. With the shift differentials being something along the lines of $1.83 for evening, $2.19 for night, and a weekend differential of something like 15%. The building is wonderful, the nurses have seemed very friendly and happy. But the location will put me in a big city that I am unfamiliar with and an hour away from my family. But, they have a ton of affordable apartments... Capital Regional: Nice, new hospital. The labor and delivery floor is nice. They have a well baby nursery, and good security. The pay is $20 an hour and 10% evening, 12% night, and 15% weekend differential. Its in Tallahassee also, so that puts me an hour away from family.... not my top choice...but its still a contender. SGMC:About 45 minutes from family in a city that I will be familiar with the city.$17-$18 an hour. The shift differentials I believe are the same 10%, 12%, and 15%. I will do my clinicals at this hospital. The staff seem friendly and happy. There is a hospital in my hometown that pays $19 an hour, 3.23 for evening and $4.25 for night.... but the staff are rude, they all come off as unhappy (the ones I've had to deal with...). NOT somewhere that I even desire to work at, even with the bay and convenience. I'm just trying to get this figured out so I can go ahead and start talking to the hospitals about the student loan repayment. My heart is saying go with TMH. But, given what I've said, if you had to choose a hospital from this list, which would you choose? Or, any advice?

Well, for the hospitals that are offering 4 years of tuition reimbursement.... I'd like to know if they would be a good place to work before I have a committment.... Because I LOVE the hospital, but would be an hour away from my parents in Tallahassee, Florida. And I would LOVE to work in the NICU there... So, should I email about it?
