Health Care Vote- Is there anyone else as confused as me?

Nurses Activism

Published

I am usually an informed consumer. I am having a hard time following the progress of this vote.

First of all when I go to whitehouse.gov the information there is about the original proposal not the current version.

My understanding Senate bill is a dumbed down bill with provisions for student loans, it has tax of medical devices, it cuts the benefits current Medicare benefits. It does away with the popular Medicare Advantage Program. There is a huge grant given to Nebraska to pay for all the Medicaid Issues. Not to mention the abortion issue. I am sure their are more.

Is the reform anyone wants?

Should politics with kickbacks be attached ?

Dear MedSurg32RN,

One thing that has been made clear to me by a nurse liason rep for a hospice company is that the Medicare cuts will come from withholding care to the elderly sick. The rep indicated that more people of a certain age will be compelled to accept hospice.

Schmoane

You don't think that hospice rep would have some ulterior motives? Also 'withholding healthcare from elderly sick' is just another phrase for 'death panels,' which have been debunked more times than I care to count. Don't fall for such obviously harebrained lies, please.

Please, oh, please. Check your facts before you quote someone, particularly someone involved with a for-profit medical business.

nothing to be confused about, ANYTHING is better than what we have now.

I don't know sometimes the devil you know is better.

So far Medicare patients are going to have cuts. I will have to pay a tax on my health care. More government regulation.

My experience dealing with the government is never fun - I have to pay an account to do my taxes, are we going to have health consultants to advocate for our health care now? My experience dealing with medicaid and medicare has been less then pleasant. But maybe people enjoy dealing with government officials. My experience working with my health insurance is at least a person answers the phone and answers you question. When I have called the state to ask about health care options I was on the phone waiting 2 hours on hold and then they referred me to a web site ( which I didn't understand).

But for many this maybe preferable, I just have a hard time understanding.

the only people that are confused are those that want to be confused or are trying to confuse others.

fact: health care cost are and have been increasing out of control while care decreases.

again, anything is better.

I do share your frustration. I'm normally a political junkie, but stopped following news of healthcare reform, because legislative process is driving me crazy. As you mentioned, the fact that we don't really know what will be in the final bill doesn't make it easier to follow the discussion. To me, the most important issue is covering all uninsured, and single payer would be my preferred option. I got my hopes up only to be crushed again on several occasions, so I'm just waiting to see what will be in the final bill.
