Nurses week Cheap gifts from admin.

Published

So, with nurses week coming up, I was fondly remembering all the neat swag my employer has offered me as a token of their appreciation.

Over the last four years as a nurse I have received -

A calculator that broke in one week,

A fanny pack that was made out of sheet plastic,

A coupon for a free cookie from the cafeteria,

Shoelaces with the hospital logo,

A lunch bag made out of the same sheet plastic as the fanny pack,

And the only gift that was ever usefull, a badge holder like the drug reps give out where your badge is on a string with a spring.

so what kind of gifts does your institution pony up for?

There have to be some worse ones than mine.

We all know that a cheap trinket from our employer will ensure our future longevity with said institution. So what made you stay working where you are.

Our hospital is pretty good about gifts. Beach bags, beach towels, etc etc. No complaints from me. One year for valentines day we all got $50 cash.

I would be thrilled to get something that doesn't have the hospital logo on it. Just once. ;)

mattsmom, you couldn't have been more right;)

Our institution is notorius for shall we say 'less than desirable' nurses day gifts. Just to name a few...........A calender with the pictures of all of the nurse managers on it, cheap stethescopes (that nobody uses, because they are useless), bags of various description, all containing the hospital logo (of which I did not receive the latest, working an off shift, there were none left when I came back to work after a few days off), small clocks containing the hospital logo that inevitably fall apart with the first month of ownership, etc. etc. We often reminise about the quality (or lack thereof) of past nurses day gifts, each person able to top the other!! I would LOVE to receive a gift certificate or a bonus............even if it was $5 or $10.00, that would be 100% better than the usual fare!

well I was impressed last year! The director of nursing brought all of us into a "meeting" and had us make our own stress balls. (oh this was a clever project!!!) we all got a balloon, and a small funnel and we got to fill our balloon with flour. Wow, it was a gift to be treasured!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This year, which was a vast improvement from last year, we got donut holes...One dozen...Not even the donuts...Docs got folding beach chairs and a dinner....Sigh......And they feign surprise at their treatment of us and our rapidly diminishing forces...

On Founders Day at our hospital, we used to get a small gift from the local handicapped folks workshop. Useful, yet odd gifts included a broom (picture us all standing at the bus stop carrying brooms...looking like witches heading home to the cauldron), an oven mitt, and a light bulb that was to last for 7 years...but didnt.

We get a frozen turkey every Thanksgiving...thats a thrill to lug home on the bus....why not a grocery certificate????

Oh well, at least they try to do something...I guess I shouldnt be ungrateful in light of what others have said here!!!!

Last year we got the opportunity to have a bake sale to pay for our own festivities. Hold on now......this year....we got a 2 inch cactus.....in the little plastic box from the nursery.......AND....a childs bandana....all in matching white paper bags with our names hand printed..HAND PRINTED I TELL YOU!!...in ink. I'm so proud!!

In addition to the being given the the oppertunity to buy our hospital T shirt for $10, I was given a set of address labels that my DON printed off out in the office. My name and address where incorrect.

Well, although I feel it shouldn't take either a rocket scientist or cheapo administration to figure out that to keep us appreciative might just mean treating us accordingly, my husband did send me a dozen roses at work, much to my delight and surprise, and a single rose to each nurse working that night as well...
