hey guys! so I'm a nursing student and worked at my hospital in patient transport for a year and I am now a nursing assistant in the ICU. when I worked in transport I noticed this but even more when I started in the ICU as an aid because I use hand sanitizer CONSTANTLY before I go into a room after each room and theres over 20 beds so when its time for sugar checks I use a whole lot of hand sanitzer. since the sanitizer is basically alcohol it destroys your hands and nails (especially if you have nail polish on) the polish will get sticky as all hell and basically come off and due to the tackiness of the polish then you get fuzz stuck to your nails (not cute). I have stopped wearing nail polish now but I noticed like all the women nurses wear normal nail polish and they dont have this problem.
Do you girls wear nail polish?
If so, does yours become tacky and gross?
I have sooooo much nail polish and have tried this with many different brands and it happen with all them pretty much. I know this is kinda a silly question but I am just wondering haha.
I guess I am just a pig pen type person. I rarely wear nail polish. When I do (if I'm on vacation) there is always some dirt under my nails when I remove the polish. I regularly wash my hands but if I don't see the dirt because the nails are polished I don't know it is there to scrub it out.
Hi! I am a critical care nurse. I've been doing this for 30 years. From what I've witnessed many, many critical care nurses, and other nurses, do wear nails. Some are bolder than others, some are more ornate. I seriously don't understand it. I have not worn nail polish to work. I do not want to carry anything home unnecessarily. I've not seen nurses get reprimanded for it, rather I've seen managers admire and applaudthree nails. The rule remains that nurses are not supposed to wear them. Nails are too be short, clean, well maintained.
I stopped wearing nail polish a long time ago when I did lab research and had to wash hands and wear gloves all the time. My nails would chip and drive me crazy. I uses fake nails to stop biting my nails, and eventally was fine with just polish. I don't know much about gels. Luckily my nails and cuticles appear healthy, and I like being able to see anything under my nails.

I don't. I don't like to spend money on a manicure that is going to get destroyed from frequent handwashing
I'll opt for a pedi, though!
