Can you tell me more about the program at UAFS? course work, clinicals, instructors, intensity, etc. I have taught school for 7 years (and love it) but I'm looking at a career change that would offer me more opportunities for advancement, more flexibility and more pay.
I don't know of any other programs in the river valley....are there any other options for nursing school around here?
Thanks!
Diana
Hi,I really like UALR nursing program especially the way it is set up. I feel its better geared toward my type of learning plus the fact I have a family. I must warn you that the program is very tough and intense. They will frequently tell you that their program is somewhat accelerated b/c we don't go in the summers; thererfore they are depending on you to motivate yourself to learn alot of things fast. Okay I said that now I am also going to say this. Its not as hard as some people will try to convince you it is. I have three kids and a pt job. I came into the program with a 3.0 basically b/c while doing my prereqs at UCA I never studied so I got B's and C's which I was okay with b/c I knew I did not study at all just attended class and listened. When I came to UALR I tried to start studying every night for hours like some students and sometimes I would study for an hour but usually I would end up not getting it done. When I take my exams I get B's and C's which I am still happy with. (78 is the lowest C ) I very rarely miss class and I use NCLEX review books to help me with the subject. I don't participate in study groups b/c I don't have time even though if you go to UALR's program you will see alot of those form. I think we started out 120 and have around 75 left from those original. I have 2 sem. left and I defintely plan to be one of those who will grad. in May 2006. I am probably rambling too much here but if you have anymore questions just let me know.
Kimhaw!
I am at UALR's nursing program and will graduate in May of this year. I just stumbled up on this website and saw this forum. I should be in the class with you now. I read a post from you on another part of the allnurses forum and thought to myself how similar your program seemed to mine. Lo and behold, you are in my program. I hoe you are lurking somewhere out there and can read this. I just picked up my textbook for Nurses Professional Role and the syllabi for both that class and Med Surg III. Give me a holler if you are still around.

wow I still need to go and get mine. Does the syllabus say anything about the score needed on hesi to graduate. I am so wondering what it is. I may go get mine monday. Have you started your readings I am thinking about starting tomm.
Hey I am online now. Do you have Instant Messager? I use Yahoo, AOL IM and MSN. If you want stephanie, you and myself can chat somewhere and I can tell you what I found out. There is no distinct score for the HESI in the syllabus but I did see where if you have to take the second write and you made below 900 on any one category, you should study those areas for remediation. I am not sure whether 900 is the score we need or not. I did call XXXX at the office and ask her. She could not give me an answer. She will be calling me back. Our first exam is on February 2. I will start reading tonight.

Queen,It must be a small world, I too, am a senior in the nursing program at UALR. I didn't know that the syllabi was ready for the Prof. Role class. Guess I need to get to the bookstore.
Perhaps you'll see this message. Hope you get to know you better.
Stephanie
There is a book for the Nurses Professional Role class also. Starting the reading is probably a good idea.
kimhaw and iwannabeanrn:
Be sure to take a good look at the new clinical paperwork required for clinicals. There have been some changes. No longer will be have care plans. At least I don't see that required. We will have to identify 5 nursing diagnoses per clinical week. Ex: Altered Tissue Perfusion related to . . . .as evidenced by . . . . The paper work is definitely different but doable. Since we will have several patients this is better. The syllabus has us graduating on May 20, but the UALR schedule says May 13. There is just soo much information. Not to worry though. We will do fine.
