nurses and spelling

Published

I believe nurses to be some of the most well educated, bright and savvy professionals across all disciplines. My question is, why can't a large majority spell? I am talking basics here, for example their, there and they're. Is this a general failure of education or specifically science-oriented curriculum? It is embarassing.

WHO CARES!!!! I have come across major spelling and grammar errors on these threads. I ALWAYS knew what the writer meant, had no trouble understanding the meaning of the words. Judging someone by the way they speak is shallow, shallow, shallow. I think I spelled judging wrong. Does that mean I'm a half wit?

haha, a minute before posting this, I just asked my finance how to spell conscious for another post. Just a funny coincidence

No, you actually spelled "judging" correctly. You're a half-wit because you used six exclamation points instead of one question mark at the end of your question.

KIDDING.

That is so not nice. :) Since you recognized my error, you must be a superior nurse and human being. I bow at your feet

Glad we understand each other. :p

I think it is the specific person-I have seen many people in different professions: engineers, police officers, etc. have spelling difficulties.

Not paying attention seems to be one of the big problems I see.....when it comes to poor spelling or grammar.

I'm only judging my brother-in-law's wife spelling. As soon as she walked acrossed the stage to get her RN, she became the devil. The other day, I saw her spelling for the first time on FB. Poor woman!

Spelling errors are very common you'll be surprised.

You are right - it is a grammar issue and something we should all remember from grammar school! I wonder if all of the abbreviations and short cuts in the health care vernacular is a contributing factor - not to mention texting and Facebook!

How about having too much to do in too little time? I don't think this is particular to nursing either.

We'll let the grammar police take care of them. 4.gif :lol2:

I used to be a grrrrrreeeeat speller until I started taking all science based classes and laid off "real" literature. It's a shame but I'd rather have my knowledge now than be able to spell everything right. Besides, I'm a great speller when it comes to medical terms!
