Today, there is an article posted on how 22,000 nurses are taking a stand against mandatory vaccination. These nurses are willing to lose their jobs to stand up for their Pro-choice rights. I have included the link below so you can read the article for yourself. Learn more about NAMV (Nurses Against Mandatory Vaccines)

NAMV was founded when mandatory vaccines were introduced in the workplace, and though it is not pro-vaccine OR anti-vaccine, it is certainly pro-CHOICE. NAMV members believe that all people should have the right to choose and refuse medical treatment, including nurses and healthcare workers.

I didn't see anyone say they got the flu from the vaccine (could have missed it of course).

Every time one of these threads pops up, someone states that they got the flu shot, and then a week later they got the flu. Or "the only time I ever got the flu was after I got the flu shot." The insinuation is quite clear. And on other threads, some nurses have actually explicitly said that the flu shot gave them the flu or gave someone they know the flu.

I am unable to take the flu vaccine. I get really sick and 3 years in a row I actually then tested positive for the flu. It is such a hassle to decline and explain why I don't take it. Once I stopped taking the flu shot I haven't missed a day of work. Sometimes due to the hassle, I feel like taking the shot, then see what they say when I'm sick all the time!

I' ve never heard that one. I did hear that not washing ones hands caused a lot of deaths in women acquired on the birthing process.

Has anyone taken a look at what these vaccines are made from. I took the vaccine twice and each time became sick with the flu. Prior to that I was not getting sick even with a cold. The vaccine did not work for me and caused me to loose work time in which my supervisor played games with my pay.

I received the vaccine every year for the past 8 years and have not gotten the flu once in that time. I have had colds though. But they weren't from the vaccine.

where I work if anyone says they are feeling sick or think they have a flu or anything even like it they are sent to employee health, its required to go if they have any flu-like sickness at all. they get swabbed to see if they have flu or something else. so far, no one who was vaccinated and thought they had the flu did have the flu, everyone is told their lab results and they have had all kinds of viruses but not influenza. so they didn't get the flu, they just got other viruses which the vaccine doesn't have anything to do with. maybe you just got sick like everyone does this time of year? but it's still not flu.

First, let's remember - Do No Harm. Second, we are stewards of quality, safe, evidence based healthcare and have a duty to protect the public who seeks our services - that includes protecting ourselves from sickness/diseases/infections. We must uphold the public's trust in our commitment to do our very best to keep them safe under our care. I work in community health-Peds, Maternal/Child, very sick and medically compromised patients. Protecting myself from illnesses that could put my patients at risk of serious harm is a trust and duty that I take seriously. There are too many studies at this point to show the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks. The action of not vaccinating continues to reduce our herd immunity and expose us to illnesses that as a developed nation, had been mostly eradicated or greatly reduced. Also, if you haven't had a chance, round through your local Peds and adult ICU units to get a look at babies, children, pregnant women, elderly, and medically compromised patients who are hanging on by a thread or didn't survive due to exposure to and rapid progression of pertussis, measles, flu, etc. This is not a joke, nor is it an experience our patient's and families choose. If we are going to make a choice, choose wisely and in the best interest of those who put their lives in our hands daily.

I just read that this year's flu vaccine has had a 60% effectiveness rate, a vast improvement over the 20% from the year before. That's not a bad deal.

I didn't get my shot this year, not because of any objection to it, but because they ran out of vaccine at work (offered for free to employees, not mandated). I just never got over to the pharmacy to get one. Sure hope I don't end up regretting that. I've had the flu, and it was the worst illness I've ever experienced.

I posted at the beginning of this thread that I have never had the flu until a few days after taking the flu vaccination in 1986. Was it from the vaccine or did I have the virus already in my system....I will never know. I was never so sick, so I made the choice of not taking the flu inj after that, and have not contracted the flu since. This year five nurses and 3 CNA on night shift refused the vaccine. Not one of us contacted the flu......6 nurses who did receive the flu inj came down with the flu and was out a week or more. There have been other nurses throughout the hospital who received the inj and came down with the flu. I do not know the totally of how many in the entire hosp who contacted the flu but I think in my department it says a lot. Funny how the people who did not receive the inj did not have so much as a cough or cold.

For those who were nasty in their post, please do not reply. I rather not go through that hatefulness again. I just wanted to post employees w/o inj and those with and who ended up contacting the flu. Might make a good study for someone who has time.

Let me tell you my rationale, I retook my childhood vaccinations to get into nursing school (some of my originals never worked! I had the mumps years after getting gte mumps vaccine- my sister had the chickenpox years after getting the varicella vaccine, so how well did they really work? ) But this incident created a battle of diarrhea, damge to my gut, I fought this with probiotics and I had to drastically increase my vitamins and minerals because they shot out of my body so fast- I couldn't absorb them, eventually this original damage was followed by deficiency diseases- B12 deficiency, hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency (B vitamins), tooth loss (multiple deficiencies), ulcer (adrenal insufficiency), I almost died last year, from my ulcer, I lost 5 pints of blood. I have been home healing, and aded MSM and TMG to my nutrients- these have opened up my methylation pathways suddenly and finally gave me a breakthrough on my diarrhea. I was grasping at straws before then, always researching, my docs couldn't help me. But now that I am finally coming back, I cannot take more assaults on my immune system like that. I just can't bear to go through that again.

Were you swabbed for influenza and had a positive result for flu? Did the other nurses also have confirmed cases of influenza?

The flu vaccine is not a live vaccine, so it cannot give you the flu. No way, no how.

The vaccine can't cover every strain of flu. Some years it does a better job of providing coverage than others. But even if you get the flu after getting the vaccine, you're likely to have a milder case of it than if you had not been inoculated.

I think you answered your own question: you were probably already exposed to the flu at the time you got your shot.
