Radical bid to knock out political curruption:

Hit the road with the nurses for Prop. 89
With modern politics now tied to focus groups, tracking polls, TV attack ads and the other oh-so-serious -- and often oh-so-boring -- accouterments of California elections, there's almost no time for good, old-fashioned political stunts that at least added a little life and personality to the voting business in years past.
The exception: The California Nurses Association, which is out on the hustings backing Proposition 89, the campaign finance initiative

Spacenurse - I'm one nurse who does not believe in giving MY money to politicians to run their campaigns. Let them use their own money.
I do not believe in publicly financed campaigns. Is there not enough PORK being purchased with my hard earned money? Now I have to give it to politicians?
No thanks.

Big Labor is even against this prop.

If you have any insurance, drive a gas powered vehicle, take medication, or have to pay anything to these corporations you are paying for the ads against proposition 89. They are also the BIG donors to political campaigns. In California this means mostly Democratic politicians get your money that YOU paid for insurance or energy.
Big labor, polluting corporations, and greedy HMOs want to keep control of politics. They don't want to lose their control of politicians.

NURSES got signatures and are going to their churches, community groups, and making phone calls to explain the truth. CHEVRON paid for an ad calling nurses a "special interest"
I for one am very tired of spending my days off work to keep our safe staffing law, keep unlicensed personnel from being allowed to pass meds and perform invasive procedures, and all we have accomplished to make it possible to care for our patients. I want to work to make life better instead of fighting a Democratic Speaker of the Assembly whose wife is a lobbiest for the healthcare industry that wants to avoid safe staffing and building safe buildings. THEY took our Medicare money to "give" to politicians who do their bidding. AND a governor who has NO RESPECT for nurses work.

"Special Interest" iis not a dirty word and the CNA is a special interest group that has the right to lobby our representatives, just as all the other groups have a right to lobby.
Gotta run or I'd address the rest of your post . . . . bbl:balloons:

That is a line in the advertisement funded by Chevron and other corporations. It is not true.
Take time to get both sides OR just pay attention to BIG MONEY 30 second ads.
Each vote counts the same.

So basically he who has the most money wins - he who has the most money owes a bunch of favors to the folks who gave him that money - and the wealthy minority rule the rest of us who don't get any say in the matter, because we CAN't buy our way in. Have you really thought this through?? Open your eyes and realise that publicly financed political campaigns are NOT welfare for politicians but a chance to get the corporations (and their interests) out of politics and get the voices of the rest of us heard. It's all about leveling the playing field, as simple as that.
I disagree with you and have thought about it. . "Silences the political activity of some groups, but not others; carves out an unfair advantage for its sponsors."
California Taxpayer's Guide
Raising millions of dollars from taxpayers to run the campaigns of politicians is not fair and I have a right to say I do not want to fund the campaigns of politicians and I will vote against this proposition because of that. steph
