Nursing really kills me sometimes. It's like, some of us are on self destruct when it comes to our jobs. Yeah we are a responsible, hard working bunch- but why do some of us then turn around and treat ourselves so badly? It drives me crazy.
How many nurses do you know go home and actively control their weight, exercise regularly and decrease stress levels- all the things we promote? Aren't we role models in a way for the patients?

Yes Tracey, I had just alluded to that in one of my posts from the overweight nurses conversation. I think if we can set the example then we certainly ought to. We are meant to be teachers and teach we must, but isn't it better to practice as you preach? People are bound to respect you and trust your instruction if you can SHOW that you know your stuff...Even better if you can identify with where they have been and succeeded! Something to think about. Unfortunately this is a subject that not many people can follow advice on. Though there are some universal truths about weight loss, dieting and exercise, each person tends to take an individual approach. We have to identify what the patient has been doing, what their knowledge base is, and their receptivity to undertaking a different method for the next time.

My opinion is that it is our job to let people know the healthy ways of life, but it is our choice to live as we please!!!!
