Nurses Masquerading As Doctors (INSULTING)

Nurses Activism

Published

The growing shortage of medical doctors, which will be made much worse by health care reform, will mean more and more patients are cared for entirely by "nurse specialists" and nurse practitioners, instead of physicians. Nurses are lobbying for increased prescribing privileges and for the right to be addressed as "doctor" in health care settings.

What do you guys think about this idiot, and the ignorant nonsense he is blabbering over on fox news? Kind of insulting to those of us who have spent years pursuing advanced degrees such as CNP, and often save lives and clean up messes made by arrogant, egotistical physicians...

Just another doc who's all butt hurt over the fact that I get paid $50 an hour, am not on call, don't have to answer the phone at all hours of the night on my days off, and have a life outside of my work.

I prefer a Nurse Practitioner who has time to listen to my concerns than a doctor who simply wants to write me a prescription unconditionally.

I agree completely. I prefer using Nurse Practitioners over doctors in most cases. My husband had a head injury recently and saw to doctors in the local ER who just dismissed our concerns and sent him home. The third ER visit we went to a better hospital, and the Nurse Practitioner who saw him did a much better job and took the time to address our concerns and got him the help he needed.

Well, technically, they don't have to take call either.

It all depends, on how much money they want to make.

His message is very inflammatory and seems aimed at stirring people up.

The only nurses who are lobbying to be called doctors are ones who have.....received their doctorate degree. We afford that respect to professors and others who have their doctorate.

This guy is jumping into an issue that he has no right to be in. He is tying it into the whole health care debate, which he knows will stir up emotions as well.

People that can't get into Veterinary School apply to Medical School. Logically then Vets must be smarter than MD's so we should all be seeing our Vets right along with our pets.

LOL!!!!:yeah:

here is a dirty little secret fox did not identify in the article:

this guy could not possibly be more wrong if he purposely set out to be so. no matter how badly you want something to be, and no matter how much passion you say it with, this still does not make it so. fox news is, by its nature, not news, but inflammatory. you get wild speculation with just enough facts thrown in to keep most of their viewers confused. that's exactly what this article is; a few facts and a tremendous load of inflammatory opinion. i would not get up in arms about it, i'd just ignore it. articles like this are designed to create a fight. the facts will take care of themselves. i'm not sure if it was this guy or not, but a few months ago fox had a physician and np on discussing this issue head-to-head and she destroyed his faulty logic. her point was that, while not physicians, np's can handle a large portion of the country's health concerns, and then refer to physicians when needed or simply work along side them. i know i've had my say about some np's who seem to take it too far in feeling that they are the same as 'any world renowned physician specialist'. these np's hurt the cause but thankfully are in the minority. the interesting thing about his article is that, if you really look at what he's saying about economics and healthcare, he actually is making a case for np's and pa's. another interesting thought: even if this guy is correct, just due to the passage of time, would not the educational preparation of most current np's exceed the preparation of past md's who are still well regarded?

you do realize that psychiatrists have to have an md and then they complete a residency in psychiatry?

i am not defending the guy, but he did go to medical school. he has just as much education as any other physician and has a specialty in a mental field of study.
