nurses have any you ever repeated a nursing prereq more than once?

I am needing advice. I emailed a school that I was interested in that entrance into the nursing school was solely based gpa. i asked if took human anatomy over and made a C could I still get into the nursing program. i was told that the seven year policy I thought meant after seven years you can take a science credit over with a clean slate really means you can just retake it to update knowledge on an already passed course. do any of you know a school where they would accept a C in human anatomy? it doesnt necessarily have to be a school in my home state of tn. I planned on taking human anatomy again for the third time and getting an A in it which will average in to the F I already have and become an C. I am better prepared for it now than i was when I was a freshman

Most of the schools that freely accept 'C' grades in prerequisite classes are the for-profit private schools that charge lots of tuition. As long as you can obtain financial aid or find a way to cover the tuition, they'll admit you into their nursing program. However, the quality of some of these nursing programs is not stellar.

ITT Technical Institute has campuses in multiple states and offers a nursing program. The University of Phoenix is another option. Platt College has campuses in a few states. West Coast University has a few campuses in California. Brown Mackie is another private entity. These are all private schools, and with the exception of UOP, should be the option of last resort.

I'm completely confused by this post. Did you get a C or an F for human anatomy?

Why can't you just Google all the schools you're interested in, ring the nursing section and ask the relevant nurse educator? They can probably work out a plan of study for you. Ours did that at our university - it was part of their job.

Things probably work differently here in the U.S. than overseas. Most nursing programs at the public colleges and universities here have fiercely competitive admissions, and even though a minimum 'C' grade is required in all prerequisite courses, the masses of people who are earning 'A' grades are usually going to be the ones who get admitted.

In my area, the affordable community colleges will typically receive 600 applications to the nursing program when only 100 slots are available.

I think the OP meant he/she received an F. But will redo the course and if all goes well, the OP gets an A, the A & F will average out to a C.

Its my understanding that not all programs do an average of a repeated course. Some programs will simply replace the old grade with the new grade. I would probably look into those kinds of programs. HOWEVER, I think you might still have an uphill battle to get into such programs since you failed it twice and if you do get an A the third time around, you are up against people that got the A first time they took it.

Some schools will replace the F with an A instead of averaging it out to a C. However, when applying to nursing programs they'll see your retakes and in many cases will take the students that didn't need to retake the class. You could look into private schools that usually have less strict admission standards (many private schools around here you are guranteed a spot in clinicals as long as you make C's in all your classes, however tuition is through the roof) but are usually more expensive. Many technical schools (at least around here) just have waiting lists and you're guranteed a spot in clinicals as long as you have C's in all your classes, however, you could be waiting 2 years just to get into clinicals.

I am currently enrolled in a tech college and they encourage you to retake a class to get the grade that you need.

I retook 3 classes last quarter to bring B's to A's. It is extremely competitive, so if you have to take it over and over, do so. I just got my acceptance letter yesterday( woot woot) there were 900 applicants and they took 50.

Our school is merit based only. No interviews or essays.

what about two year RN schools? i wonder if they look at repeations even if you have good grades in your prerews? I was thinking about the NSCC/Belmont BSN in my hometown of nashville but I was wondering will they hold that against if I had A's in all my prereqs except human anaotmy I.

It depends on the ADN program...Around here it's a lottery system as long as you meet a certain GPA, however, I've heard of others around the country that are just as competitive and strict on GPA as BSN programs.

I live is washington but I have found that here you have 2 attempts to pass each pre-req with a 3.0 and they dont average them they just take the most current grade...so if you had an F before and you got an A this time they would look at it as an A but they will only allow you 2 attempts not more.

That being said most community college around here dont accept anyone without a 3.5 or higher and its usally higher! competition is tough over this way. We do have some schools that have had so many applicants that they have had to go to a lottery system so if you meet the minimun requiements then you are entered into a lottery.

hope it helps:D

I'm in an ADN program and they do take repeats into consideration. It really depends on the particular program you are trying to get into. I don't think there is a hard set rule that ADN programs do this and BSN programs do that.
