Nurses Day Gifts

Nurses General Nursing

Here we go again - nearly that time of the year.

I am a DON in LTC. I have about 25 nurses and a total budget of $400 - or about $16/nurse. I've already blown my budget plus spent a few extra $'s hidden in a couple different accounts (creative budgeting. ).

After being a member here for many years now I still panic that my best isn't good enough judging from all the prior past posts.

So I have to ask....just what do you want? I have a great group of nurses and I really want them to know I appreciate each and every one of them (each of them will get a thank you card personalized by me in addition to the usual gifts).

Help me out - don't let me fail!

We just got our nurse's day gift...we got a clipboard that lists "10 reasons it's great to be a nurse" on one side. I actually really like it and though some nurses complained, I was happy with it :) We also got pizza and cake at our mandatory staff meeting last night.

My nursing school graduation gift from my mentor was a clipboard with lab values, GCS scores, Braden scale, and drug formulas on the back. It was SO useful! I loved this gift-I think clipboards are a nice gift for nurses.

I love pens! I'm easy to please, lol. Get me a pen from pharmacy or another vendor and I'm a happy camper.

Maybe you can give gift cards or buy a luncheon.

I used to work full time as a school health assistant, and the principal gave teachers and all staff the gift of time. We would be given a ticket to leave work 2 hours early on any day we chose, and get paid for it. I looved that !

How many nurses do you have on your unit, OP? I have mentioned this in prior threads, but I will say it again: the best nursing day gift I ever got was a 20 minute massage. My NM brought in a massage therapist (usually charges $1 per minute), brought his massage chair and a sign-in roster. Bless his heart-his hands must have been killing him at the end of the week! We ALL got our 20 minute massages, and we were ALL appreciative!

There were 40 of us on the unit, and the therapist waived a large portion of his fee. I was very grateful to my NM, and I couldn't stop thanking her for this thoughtful gift.

A day off would be nice

I'd like for my employer to remember that there is a night shift! And that many of us work weekends. We get ignored all the time. Special things only happen during the week and generally before night shift comes on. Maybe the higher ups could show up and recognize that at night we keep the place running smoothly without their "support". A simple "thank you", in person, once in a while would be nice.

Awe - despite popular perception...I just don't have the authority to give a day off with pay. I can't even get away with the 2 hours coupon idea.

We have a couple local ambulance companies that give out the best pens - everyone "fights" over them. Have already gotten the company to give me pens for everyone. (This is just part of the gifts this week.

The thank you card esp. if personalized would mean more to me than anything. My place doesn't celebrate nurses' week, they do celebrate "national nursing home week" whatever that is, and there's usually a meal provided for all three shifts. I hate the meals and food things though as I'm always trying to eat healthy. I would hate the week of food treats that someone above mentioned.

Nice things I've gotten have included insulated travel mugs, insulated lunch bags, canvas grocery bags, fleece zip ups, tote bags or backpacks, water cups etc. All have been very appreciated.

we get to wear colors other than our designated uniform color. i think that's it. lol
