Nurse What have you got on your feet!

Well there I was sat in the staff room early this morning waiting to take handover and in walks one of my newish nurses. Sits herself down without saying a word proudly wearing her smart royal blue dress, black tights and....... a knee high tan coloured pair of cowboy boots!

Now for a starters this is rural England and secondly all my nurses know I am a stickler for uniforms. I have to admit that for once in my life I was speechless and almost could not stop myself laughing out loud when I saw the look of disbelief and horror on the other nurses faces as they waited for my response.

Some how I kept a straight face through handover and asked the nurse to stay behind. " Kelly what have you got on your feet?" I ask. "Oh these, smart aren't they they're my new boots!". There then followed a long tale about how she had left her nursing shoes on the bus and thought that the boots were the next best thing.

Needless to say I sent her home to change but keep getting the giggles when I picture her swaggering out of the department swing doors like something of a cowboy film. I had to take myself of to another office to ring the site manager to tell her I was a nurse down for a couple of hours as I knew when I told him why I would not be able to stop myself from laughing. It was almost tempting to let her stay as I am sure it would have brightened some of my patients visit! :)

So once again I have proved to myself that I really haven't seen anything and am sad to report if you spot a smartly dressed nurse proudly modelling a pair of cowboy boots surrounded by English countryside then she probably is mine!! :)

You will probably laugh at this too. Remember when I did patient care it was fresh trauma from field to ER up to the ICU sometimes. I tended to be the one who was bedside till long after handover helping settle them in to the ICU.

Big and heavy the tops were hidin under my multipocket pants. My biggest pluses of these shoes are side zipper so I can get in and out cleanly. Composite toe for protection from errant portable xray machines. Lastly waterproof. I could stand in a drainage ditch with water over my ankle and not get wet feet. Which is also nice when your bedside and someone decides to do a dpl and squirts the return all over your feet.

I got poop on some fabric covered merrell shoes one shift, so I finished the shift wearing non slip socks that I found in the laundry. Not safe I know but not many people noticed.

Needless to say I sent her home to change but keep getting the giggles when I picture her swaggering out of the department swing doors like something of a cowboy film. I don't know why the story reminds me of the one I used to refer to as "Disco Nurse", but she had one heck of a Saturday Night Fever look goin' on, always in bell bottom scrubs & platform clogs, very odd tops.

They really were a chuckle pieced together.

Really made you think sometimes required scrubs by some facilities are for the best. lol.

way sooo funny...I was rolling.

How about gifts from your husband...I was a new nurses aid, my husband decided to get me a gift, he had scrubs custom made just for me, with all the little pockets, hooks etc that would or could make my job easier. A thought process that Im sure took a while to put together, but I know it was out of the kindness of his heart..but the scrubs were identical, top and bottom. A white background with rainbow triangles various sizes and scattered all over......I looked like a clown, but wore them to work with neon pink shoes and a neon pink scarf (luckly it was Halloween) the residents as well as the staff loved them, they were halirous when worn together, since then, I've only worn the top..I can't bring myself to wear the bottoms...:jester:

We used to wear white uniform dresses.

We had an aide that decided a white lacy lacy lacy (think Victorian) dress with poof sleeves and huge shoulder pads was a good look. No, it was NOT a uniform dress.

I also recall, though this is non-nursing, a gal who was hired on in the jewelry department I once worked in. The dress code was either a dress or "three pieces" (blouse, slacks and scarf or tie).

She opted for "dress".

She showed up... in a formal prom dress.

Yes.

I was humiliated for her.
