Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
Is marizmercado still active here in allnurses. I've heard she studied and took nursing for 1 yr because some of her subjects are credited? Just have some questions for her. If you read this please pm me ma'am . Thnks
allnurses is a big world with various threads, ive been active on this thread since more than 2 years ago, dont know anyone marizmercado..
are you serious with your plans???? then...
1) Read page 01... please please please
2) Slight changes on page 01 is: you need at least 3 months paid or volunteer RN experience as a pre-requisite application requirement of AHPRA, as per their policy..
3) Remember this (as ceridwyn said), at the end of the tunnel...... you must NOT get TBS of 7, why? because specifically you must get 7 in EACH of the Band... a TBS of 7.5 is useless if one of the bands is 6.5... AHPRA requires 7 in each band if you file application (not after or later)..
4) I am a 2nd courser.. do not worry about it..
5) You can become RN in Australia either BP (cheaper) or Pre-reg. 1 year course (expensive)... again remember item no. 3 above..
6) Let say BP total cost is P500,000 and say P1.50M for Pre-reg.(or studying/graduating a bs nursing in Australia).. if you can afford to spend
P1.50M, well i rather spend P500,000 of that P1.50M for BP, then the P1.0M i will use to go back to Phils., gain RN training/volunteer experience by spending that P1.0M for how many years, while gaining experience at the same time going gimik enjoying philippines lifestyle... and once i got the experience then apply for australia...
okey...
Hi everyone,I would like to clarify to the newbies here who were not able to follow this thread. Previous to ahpra, the nursing board of victoria accepts application for registration even without work experience (either paid or not). That's what happened to my niece who was able to apply last year. She got accepted in one of the bp schools who also did not require any work experience. Now, my niece is working in aged care in victoria.
In my case, I was able to apply for registration with ahpra because of my more than a year's work experience (although they only require 3 months in the last 5 years). Many of the bp schools also require work experience of at least a year before they accept you in their bp.
Anyway, with regards to applying for permanent residency in australia, it's best that you get a high score of 8 in all bands because you get higher points. I'm hoping to land a job in rural victoria and apply for regional state sponsorship. That's one of the easiest ways for me to pass the 65 cut off score for PR eligibility. The new point system will take effect July of this year.
As to those who really want to apply for registration with ahpra, the best, shortest, and cheapest way is still the 3 months bridging program. You only need to achieve at least a score of 7 in all bands. Which is different from an average score of 7.
just curious, sorry if i did miss something here.. i assume you got band score of 8? right? and the others "only" need to achieve 7?
mate, getting 7 is hard enough.. if you got 8, then good on you mate.. no worries.. you're great..
to others who will be able to get 8 in each band, please tell me, because i will have myself circumcised again if you do.. :-)
cheers!
take note of ceridwyn's comment... those are important matters that she had raised in her post reply to you..just remember this basic question/issue: whatever you do or study or whatever, at the end of the day, you must be eligible to apply for permanent residency.. if the answer to this is yes, then you are on the right road..
warning, you must ask advice not only from IDP but also from others (here, migration agent, friends, etc.)..
warning: I just really really super hope and pray that you are not in TAFE NSW for a Diploma of Nursing course, i hope you are there to study other course like "child care", "social work"... because if i am in your case, i will study those "child care, social work" courses, instead of that Diploma in Nursing.... never ever will i study Diploma of Nursing..
i hope you fully understand and think what ceridwyn and i have just adviced you...... cheers!
I personally chose Diploma of Children's Services with the consent of my parents, relatives, immigration lawyer & IDP. So I guess I'm in the right path, full of hopes & prayers! Thanks for the info's!

ahmm. . . what's the problem in choosing diploma in nursing???? I conform that diploma of children's services is a good choice too. . .
hi=) im a registered nurse midwife in the philippines. . . im planning to take business course or IT course in australia. .. .do you think its a good choice???? im after the permanent residency,,some told me that as long as you finished 2yrs course you are eligible to apply for permanent residency...is this true?
TO SAYICO: YOU NEED 7 IELTS to be any nurse in Australia.Checked out TAFE diploma...need 6.5 to study and they also state in their website need 7 IELTS to Enrol with Nurses board....so why would you study Diploma when you need 7 IELTS anyway?
why do this course when already a nurse without IELTS of 7....doing this course will give you a qualification of an Enrolled nurse without IELTS of 7 you will not be able to enrol/register with nurses board and still have no skilled entry qualification.
Got an Offer letter from Bankstown TAFE. I'm on the process of having all the necessary documents for them to lodge my visa application. The institution did not require me to retake my IELTS. knowing that I only got 6.

Take Childrens or Community course instead of business or IT. & apply in Bankstown so we will be classmates.

I think this is a poor choice for someone with a nursing degree. One of my family members has this diploma and could not live on the money that child care workers get something like $16 an hour even with the diploma and not certificate...and she was bored wittless also and has now completed a teaching degree...if you are paying this amount of money which is twice what a bridging course in nursing is just to get into and live in Australia it is quite alarming.
Also this will not give you the title early childhood teacher, which is a bachelor degree from university......child care workers are not on the latest SOL list....I suppose you are going for child care centre manager....this job is described as a bachelor degree qualification if this is the skill you are aiming for, More centres are becoming pre-schools and early childhood qualification such as Bachelor of early childhood are considered manager material.
Though it is your choice....I could never find this type of money to do bridging courses or study overseas and I live here!
None of my family could give me the money either! :) So you can see why most forumers from western countries that are doing it real tough are very sceptical about the word 'poor' :)
Here is the link for the SOL list as from December:
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/sol-schedule3.pdf
Here is the link describing this position as a bachelors degree:
http://www.australia-migration.com/page/134111/482
Also just found on the site, if after studying your job is not on SOL list then if I read right, you do not qualify for a long term visa, as did happen before, even with hairdressing.
Please not this diploma is from a tafe not university, it will give you credit to do education...child care worker with diploma, is not considered a professional but more a trade.graduate diplomas are what you get after a bachelors degree and a graduate cert would probably cost less.

........how much money are you prepared to spend? when 10-12,000 AUS can get you a bridging course in nursing, an IT or a business degree would be what? well it is 12-15 a year a three year degree will be 45,000, plus what you paid for your nursing degree....do you have a money tree in your garden?:) Plus living expenses while doing the 3 year degree.
There was changes made to this idea (see DIAC) do a degree, get permanent residency. best check out the DIAC website
I have no idea about the job situation with 'business' or IT but everyone and his dog from overseas, seems to be doing those degrees in hope of doing exactly what you want to do...(Have not heard if it works or not just met them at the universities I have been) it is very generic, maybe accountancy or something more specific and you do not hear how much a shortage of business or IT people there are.
The new immigration and giving out of visa's is becoming more specific...needing people with experience in all these areas so that they can mentor, teach, expand this occupation/profession in Australia,
-not everyone in the occupations/professions in Australia, actually teaching and mentoring new arrivals, or new to the profession, so it is becoming difficult without experience in anything, as you do not offer anything except the qualification which is not exactly a skill as yet, but a qualification. Thats why they call it 'skilled migration'
It is your decision, check out the website http://www.immi.gov.au Oh, and I hope you make the decision right for you..

Hi,
I'd like to ask something. So if I don't have any work experience, the chances of me getting approved by AHPRA
for the bridging program are slim? I'm still going to start with my volunteer program in a hospital this month so would I wait until I get the 3 months experience?
Many thanks for your help! ^^)
