Nurse License Revocation

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello,

My CA LVN license was revoked early this year. I am also a RN graduate, will I be allowed to take the RN NCLEX? I am just worried because I am scared that my nursing career has ended forever.

I am willing to do whatever it takes to get my nursing license back. Please help.

Canada UK Australia require verification from licensing body regarding any licences held. UK recently took action against a nurse that lied on their application so No it isn't as simple as putting no on application form and to promote lying is not something members like to see on this site

Look at CA BON's reporting policies for license revocation. I am willing to bet that if you really wanted to pursue your nursing career, you could get away with it in another state, or another country if it came down to it.

With an LVN license revocation, it would be the BVNPT, just a technical point along with the technically correct terminology in this instance being RN, since the topic is licensing.

The reporting policy for license revocation is that it is reported, because their job is not to hand out licenses, but protect the publlc. The info is viewable from anywhere in the world.

As for the background check, it isn't really a case of "what they share" as it is the ever increasing volume of information posted online, including social media, such that even if someone took your advice and lied to the Canadian BON(s), their successful deception would likely be short-lived. I think most people have integrity, though.

I think that since fleeing the country, state etc is not possible. I would see what you can do to adjust your qualifications. Can you do a graduate degree in a different area? You may need to go back and do further study. Which is very unfortunate.

I think you also need to reflect on what you did to cause the revoke.

E.g. is a med error that went horribly? Maybe you shouldn't work around medications

E.g is it unsafe practise? Why / What made it unsafe? is nursing truly what suits you?

E.g is it drug use? Maybe healthcare in areas with drugs won't suit you

Just because you didn't practise accordingly to standards or... was a substandard nurse doesn't mean you can't EXCEL in another career. What makes it worse is you have just finished ?BSN ?ADN. Accept the revoke, don't fight it. IF needed address the cause of what lost your license (? drugs etc) or if it is just that you weren't very good, accept it and see it as a sign to redirect your career aspirations. Perhaps you in a very twisted way are fortunate that ?no-one was hurt etc. Unfortunately many nurses are terrible (even unsafe) in one area and excel in another, sometimes people aren't afforded the chance to be shifted and find out.

Maybe doing a teaching degree? See if you can do something accelerated, knock it out of the way

I'm not sure, but you can take away the license however it is difficult to take away the degree.

However I am sure your BON would have a legitamite reason for taking away your license and you need to decide why and how to fix those underlying cause so you can successfully move on with your life

Your state BON can answer your questions much better than we can.

Is anyone else troubled that one of the other posters is encouraging the OP to be dishonest?

I am not encouraging it. I am giving the OP the flip side of the coin.

Patently false and clearly disingenuous. You have already "encouraged" the OP to lie.

Write their NCLEX and answer "no" to having a previous license.

I think it's disgusting that some of the "nurses" on here act like they're God-like! I hate to break it to people, but there are a lot of nurses who lose their license for stupid BS....and there are alot of nurses who should lose their license, but are still practicing! It's actually very sad that people's entire lives get demolished, never to be right again, because of a mistake, or just because you pissed someone off and the response being your career finished. Now, I'm not talking about nurses with major criminal records or substance abuse issues, which actually are treated better than nurses who make a charting error or ordered the wrong lab without any real effect on a patient. Almost ALL nurses make mistakes, it's just a matter of who gets caught and/or reported!

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? The OP never stated why his license was revoked. We have no idea if the reason was for "major criminal'' activity, drug diversion, or because of some "small mistake." It is not acting "God-like" to discourage a member from lying to their BON. AN is not here to serve as a platform for those who would advocate lying, cheating, or engaging in other unethical behavior.

I'm definitely not encouraging lying or unethical behavior....my comment was more directed to the people who were saying things like "if your license is revoked, you definitely should not be a nurse," or insinuating people who lose their license are terrible nurses, ect. I may have commented in wrong section.
