read the above article. it is about a medical helicopter that crashed. the pilot, patient, patient's mother, paramedic are dead. the nurse is in critical condition. i feel sad because i live in this area so i know how that helicopter service has been crucial in the lives of the area's patients. i feel sad because here are medical personnel who were trying to do their job to help someone they don't know. my prayers go to the families who are left behind and those who gave their lives doing what they loved.

We lost a helicopter crew in a crash and it is indeed a horrible tragedy. There were no patients in the copter at the time.

See, this is why I don't want to get trained for helicoptor transports. In some ways, I'm sure it would be very exciting, but it's just too dangerous! I do ambulence transports and understand that I'm more likely to be involved in an accident on the ground than in the air...but in my eyes, you're also much more likely to SURVIVE an accident on the ground.

We also lost a crew of 4 a couple of years ago, pilot, copilot, EMT and nurse. Bless those brave enough to fly.

So sorry to hear about this awful tragedy. A helicopter at the facility I worked at had a crash years ago and killed everyone on board. We will keep the nurse, family of the crew and all co-workers in my thoughts and prayers.

Doesn't it state that the mother brought the baby across the border for medical treatment? I wondered if they were having trouble reaching next of kin since the story also states that they don't know what town the mother was from.

I worked at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO in December of 1988 when Lifebeat crashed. Lifebeat was from St. Joseph hospital, but from the same town. Being a small town, everyone kinda knew everyone at the "other" hospital. I was on the 7p to 7a shift in our SICU, when the news hit. Apparently, they were trying to land at the small airport, and clipped a power line.

My roommate (who later became my sister-in-law), at the time, was just telling the story (again) how the Flight Therapist had come over to our hospital earlier in the day to draw a Christmas greeting on the Respiratory Therapy chalk board.

Still incredibly sad when we stop to think about this.
