Hello, I am in the Air Force. I recently applied to the 2010 Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Progam (NECP). I am waiting for the board results. Anyone else out there as anxious as me?
Amillia2010 said:I too had looked into the PA program but realized that as a nurse you can always go back to school and become a nurse practitioner which will give you the same rights as a PA (write perscriptions etc.) I think nursing opens a lot more doors because there is so much you can do within the field too. My friend was just accepted to the PA proram during the past board and she starts next August and she is one of the younger ones accepted. No matter what you want in life you have to stay focused on your goals and if there is a will there's a way so go back to studying and you can always retake the SAT's etc if that is what you want. Good luck to you all. I feel a little relieved just knowing that the board is over, its out of our hands so all we can do is wait. I'm trying to keep my mind on other things...like Grey's Anatomy...LOL. I just started watching the show and I am now on season 5. Anyway....I can't wait to be a nurse.
I'm with you on that one. My education office pushed me towards the PA program. I decided that nursing gives you more flexibility in the future (NP, CRNA, Flight Nurse, etc). PA is pretty much 1-track.
Brooke..I don't know if you have these already, but I found these on the knowledge exchange. I emailed you the 2011 app guidelines but thought I would also post it here for anyone else that maybe interested.

2012RN2b thank you for all of that info! Everyone has been so helpful, I can't wait to see if you all made it! I'm waiting on Fall semester courses to start, they can't come soon enough ?
Hi! For everyone interested in the PA program, I wouldn't be too worried about the SAT scores. My friend just got picked up for the program and her SAT scores were below the average for last year's selects...think she had around a 1500 on the new one. She got in anyway because her math and science GPA was 4.0 and her overall was a 3.95. Our education office here told us that if you have lower SAT or AFOQT scores then you will need a really high GPA and if your GPA isn't the greatest you need to have a really high AFOQT score. In my friend's case, it seemed to be true.
Hello All! I am new to this thread but I am also awaiting notification of selection the NECP. I am a SSgt with just over 6yrs in. I have been waiting to apply for this program since 2007. I see there is a lot of discussion about the number or applicants. I too agree that if the initial 41 met the qualifications they should have priority and then with the one situation that was out of the control of the member that should be taken into consideration also. I can say that I heard it was right at 50-55 applicants on the final count. I am in the same mode as everyone else now, I AM JUST READY TO KNOW!!!! I will have to PCS upon notification which is another beast all of it's own (with a kid that is in school too!!!!). Either way I am looking forward to it and hopefully once the list come out we ALL WILL SEE OUR NAMES ON IT. If I find out any more information I will pass that on. Best of luck to all of us!
This is just torture waiting! And to think we still have a few more weeks of this...ugh. I'm also thinking, how do they decide where you will go for your first assignment? If you go to a school close to your current assignment with no PCS involved when do you or they decide where you will go next? Do we get to pick or do they? Being joint spouse I wonder these things. Just in case, I just made my husband fill out a dream sheet on VMPF to match the bedded facility list that we can go to. I just don't want him getting orders while i'm in school. Can they just tell us this now?! Good grief.
Amillia2010 I am with you JUST TELL US ALREADY!!!! I also wonder how that goes. I do believe that your NTP at the bedded facility doesn't necessarily become your first assignment. I did however choose a school near a bedded facility so my PCS will take place with me going to School. I believe that I will do NTP at Keesler but if another assignment follows that to another location upon completion of NTP i don't know. This waiting is DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!
I know MOST of the direct commissions seem to be doing NTP at their first base that way (for example, if you're NTPing at Lackland, they seem to be staying here at Wilford Hall) - but I've seen a few weird ones as well.
At any rate, if you don't NTP at your first station, I know it's a hassle, but THINK of the Family Separation Allowance (and as an officer it's snuggly-stupid money). I know for some that's poor consolation, but it's cash in hand nonetheless.

2012RN2b...actually I was referring to the Masters program I am currently enrolled in which is in Public Health. As for the nursing classes, you're right, but I am not starting in July for that very reason. Also, according to the NECP guidelines (and per my conversation with Mr. B) I couldn't start working on my nursing education in advance because that would've cut down on my total semester hours. We have to maintain at least 12 credit hours every semester. I couldn't apply for the MSN program because the NECP will not fund anything that starts prior to August according to Mr. B. It would've been really nice if I could go for the MSN instead but that's the only stipulation which prohibited me from pursuing that route. Also, the more I think about it, I think it's better that I stick to the BSN anyway because I am a computer technician by trade. I have no experience working in the hospitals so perhaps putting in more effort will be more beneficial in the long run.
