Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program USAF

Published

Hello, I am in the Air Force. I recently applied to the 2010 Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Progam (NECP). I am waiting for the board results. Anyone else out there as anxious as me?

This is just torture waiting! And to think we still have a few more weeks of this...ugh. I'm also thinking, how do they decide where you will go for your first assignment? If you go to a school close to your current assignment with no PCS involved when do you or they decide where you will go next? Do we get to pick or do they? Being joint spouse I wonder these things. Just in case, I just made my husband fill out a dream sheet on VMPF to match the bedded facility list that we can go to. I just don't want him getting orders while I'm in school. Can they just tell us this now?! Good grief.

Hi Amillia...I am joint spouse as well and from what I have been told they will try to accomodate it but won't always since the needs of the military come first. Since we are both overseas (hubby and I), my hubby has to do an exception to policy for a DEROS curtailment and it has to be signed by the Wing Commander. But as long as the Squadron and Group Commanders concur and the Functional Manager approves it, the Wing CC will as well from what I have been told. As for going to school near your current duty station, since you are allowed only one PCS, you get to choose which bedded facility you go to if you choose to stay at your current base (not near a bedded facility) and go to school...I think. My friend was accepted to NECP a few years ago and she went to school where we were stationed (Colorado, which is not one of the bedded facilities). She has since graduated and is now a nurse and she got to choose where she was going after she graduated for her one PCS...she chose Florida and that is where she is now. I can only go off of what I know from her experience, so I think that you get to choose where you go on either side, meaning I am choosing Florida since I cannot go to school here (in Germany) and that is where I will stay, or you can be like my friend and choose your PCS location afterwards and stay there. I think....

Has anyone contacted AFPC/Mr. B on when the results will be made available to us? Also, who is planning on going to Keesler or Eglin as their first duty of assignment if selected to the program? The school I applied to is almost exactly in the middle of Keesler and Eglin.

Hi! If accepted, I will be going to University of South Florida and will be at Eglin afterwards. That is, unless I get off the waitlist for San Francisco State University first, then I may be at Travis. Not holding my breath on that one though, plus Florida is a much better school (100% NECLEX pass rate for the last 2 semesters....SFSU's is only 85%)! :I

Mr. Baker told me that results will be out mid june but he couldn't give me an exact date. He told me that before the board and I haven't tried contacting him since then. Maybe someone who has never harrassed him with other questions can ask that. How do you get assigned to the NTP? Do we get to chose that or do they? I guess that was my first question. I'm assuming the first assignment would be where our NTP is.

Hi all, I've been following this thread from the beginning. I also applied this year and am anxiously awaiting the results. My cumulative gpa was a bit low (~3.0) but I feel my 4.0 science gpa makes up for it. Actually, all the grades that dragged me down were from 10 years ago, well before I joined the AF, and weren't even used as part of my nursing prereqs. I hope the board actually looks at the dates on the transcripts, as the past 2 years have been straight A's.I was just wondering how credible some of the numbers tossed around here is. Faye27's post cited a CN from 4/22 saying 41 applicants, but that was before the deadline. Another post referenced the average GPA was a 3.4, but that was supposedly from back in Jan/Feb? Transcripts weren't even in then. The 50-55 applicants posted more recently seems more like what I thought it would be, but if it's credible "inside info" why is it not an exact number? I talked to Mr. B a couple weeks before the deadline, and he told me there would be a max of 75 applications this year. He also said there were only 3 individuals who applied to both AECP and NECP. I think the 75 max came from either the "intent to apply" deadline or the transcript deadline. Either way, I was pretty certain there would be a handful of people who either wouldn't get an acceptance letter, wouldn't pass their PT test, etc. preventing them from submitting a complete package.Speaking of acceptance letters, how many people have a full acceptance letter? Mine is a full acceptance letter - it's a for-profit university who was willing to accept me early, so they can bend some rules that state universities otherwise can't. I'm just wondering how much weight that carries over a conditional letter. From my standpoint, a conditional letter that is based on the results of their summer selection board isn't really anything - just a confirmation from the school that the student finished their prereqs and is able to compete for a seat.I really want to call Mr. B and ask for these numbers, but part of me doesn't want to know. If the info posted has been wrong and there were 70+ apps that went to board, these next few weeks will be even more stressful...

I just think we would feel better if we knew what they are doing now...are they typing up a letter? doing more checks on us?...what the heck takes a month? I've seen the actual notification that goes out and it's not that hard to type up. Oh and my boss had talked to someone over at AFPC and they said (the last day of the board) that results would come out "in about a month." I just keep trying to think of other things to keep my mind busy but its hard when you have a million questions and have to wait to see if your even in. I feel for those of you PCSing b/c that would be hard to pick up and move your whole life in 1 month, especially if you own a house.

Hi! As far as the conditional/provisional letters of acceptance, they only make you eligible for an alternate slot in NECP. You cannot get a guaranteed seat unless you have a guaranteed letter of acceptance to a school that meets all of the requirements for NECP. I know because I have a provisional letter of acceptance since my school does not make admission decisions until after the 6/15 deadline to apply. Mr. B said that they cannot waste a guaranteed seat on someone who may or may not get in. As for the GPA and such, NECP calculated mine at a 3.64 (math and science) and a 3.66 overall. For the overall though, I think they only looked at certain classes since they said that they didn't even need my transcripts for the last 3 classes I took and my overall GPA is actually a 3.70. I cannot comment on the amount of packages and all that because I only know what I have heard on this site. I do know that the Chief Nurse interview carries a lot of weight with the Board as well though (I was on the Knowledge Exchange website and I found a slide presentation on there that briefed special programs, one being the NECP)...I was trying to find out if any new news was announced since the board met last week). Hope this helps some!

LOL...I google NECP and Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program every day. Also look on the Portal, Knowledge Exchange website, and even my Spangdahlem homepage for any new info on NECP since the board has met! :lol2:

Also look on VMPF and ARMS to see if my DEROS has changed or I got coded....

My school, UTHSC-San Antonio, only sends out conditional letters but AFPC likes them and knows that. It doesn't hurt us as long as everything else is good to go. I guess it all depends on what your conditional letter says.

SSGTALI I am planning to go to Keesler for my NTP being that I have been fully accepted into the SON at the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast campus. I chose this school in an effort to give me that extra "boost" on my application since once the AF moves me for school I will also be in place for NTP and first duty station. Don't know how much that will actually help but hey it is what it is. At the same time it's not too far from home for me as well so that is an extra bonus!

Kynchanted...It's so good to know that I'm not the only one searching everyday for anything new pertaining to NECP.

As far as NTP and First duty station. A friend who just graduated last weekend (AECP) attended University of Missouri-St Louis (no pcs involved) is going to NTP in Cincinatti and her first base is Langley. She is mil married to mil and from what I understand her join spouse played a part in that. She talked a bit about how that was where they also had a slot for her spouse. If accepted I don't care where I do NTP I'll just be happy to be in the program.

Thanks for sharing! Yes, my school is actually closer to Keesler than to Eglin but I'd rather go to Eglin if selected. University of South Alabama is located in Mobile, AL.In response to airforceguy, my cumulative GPA is also very low but I have a letter of acceptance from SON. I also have 30 hours with a Masters degree with a 3.5 GPA which hopefully helps. I noticed how Mr. B calculated that separately. At any rate, I appreciate everyone posting anything new that they find out as I am also trying to get inside scoops for everyone on here. I also talked to my commander face-to-face letting him know that if the results come out, he would most likely (according to what I have read) be the first one to get notified.

Kynchanted: Congrats to your friend. I am also feeling the same way you are about just getting in the program.

SSGTALI...since you have already spoken to your commander please let us know of the time he notifies you so that way the rest of us can maybe ping our commanders for the same info.

Since everyone up here is so eager I will say that any new info I get I will definitely pass it on to help in the waiting process. And from the way this thread has been going I feel pretty confident that everyone will do the same! Just think one more day down and one more closer to notification *bright side*:clown:
