Hello, I am in the Air Force. I recently applied to the 2010 Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Progam (NECP). I am waiting for the board results. Anyone else out there as anxious as me?
I understand protocol and all that but when you are assigned to a unit like mine (on Staff at HQ) then you think that it may not be that important to the commander. Or it could take a couple extra days for it to dwindle down through the directorate, division, etc before it gets to me. But it is what it is can't control any of that now, just watch and wait that's about it...
Hello everyone just thought I would give some NECP information that might be of use to everyone. First off, I am a TSgt been in 11 active duty. Currently deployed with the Army to an outpost in Afghanistan. I am a Comm troop. The only af on post. Married with three kids and stationed at Maxwell AFB, AL. Here is my story, I applied last year to the NECP and was not accepted. I had a 4.0 science GPA and an overall 3.61 GPA. All 5 eprs and a recommendation from my group commander. After that I came really close to getting out and just going to nursing school on the GI bill. I really don't know what they are looking for in applicants. Thought I would give it another shot. I also started looking into the Physician Assistant program and saw that all I need to get was a Chem II class to apply and with my grades I thought I might have a chance. I also had to take the SAT and AFCT. I did well on those as well. I got my applications in for both IPAP and NECP in December before I deployed. I ended up getting selected for PA school so I am excited for that. Now for the useful info. From my conversations with Mr. B, he said back in April that they had 75to80 applicants that were meeting the board but he was worried about getting enough quality applicants to select 50. That is what I was told by him through email. I also told him to take my application out of consideration for NECP so there is one more slot. I wish you all the best of luck. I just remember what it felt like last year when I didn't get selected for NECP. I couldn't believe it. I still don't really know what they were looking for. I do know that they messed up my GPA last year and I didn't find that out till after. I am still upset about that but everything must happen for a reason cause I got into the PA program. This year I went in expecting to not get selected plus I am deployed so it took my mind off it. I do feel your pain and again good luck.
the academic evaluation actually had me with a 3.47 overall GPA due to an error. they basically took one of my A's and made it a zero. I didnt find that out till after the board. I talked to the Col that was in charge and they said it wouldnt have made a difference and that they couldnt just reconvien the board to see if it would have made a difference. I still had a 4.0 science though. Actually my ch nurse couldnt believe i didnt make it either. One thing i had against me was I still had courses in progress but i had an acceptance letter from the nursing school. The school i was going to attend reserved slots for military. I wouldnt get your hopes down cause i dont think anyone really knows what the board is looking for. I dont know how you quantify it. that is probably why i did well with the PA board cause they very focused on your academics due to the fast pace. I really dont know what to tell you about the NECP board. I had a friend going to the same school i was and applying to the same nursing school and he got accepted. His GPA's were not as high as mine. Maybe they didnt like my letter. I was taking 15 cr hrs and working full time. Still dont understand that one. I do know that they had a high volume of quality aplicants last year. I think this year is down so you should have a good shot. As far as the PA program notification...i know my commander had the notification days before the release but had to wait to tell me. I would think it was similar for NECP. Hope all you guys make it. I just want to get out of Afghan.
i wouldn’t get too discouraged because i think the pool of quality applicants is not as good this year. i remember last year...the worst thing is getting the official acceptance package from the nursing school after not getting selected for necp. i seriously thought about getting out to go to school. i’m sure most of you will be accepted...if not all. if you get into a nursing school it should be automatic, right? i digress.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I agree from year to year you never know what these boards are looking for. You would think that being accepted to the school would make it a given to be picked up but I guess not. Anyway I will pray about it and keep pressing on.
Congrats on your selection for the PA program!!! Any be safe over there and come home healthy and whole.

mg siniscalchi has already told congress the afnc expects to fill all 50 funded slots for necp this year. "quality applicants" is a very subjective term, and since they have already stated their goal I don't think they will disapprove qualified applicants. if the intel that was posted earlier in this thread is correct, just over 50 applications went to the board, so I would expect all 50 spots to be filled, with both selects and alternates. last year's board was very competitive, partly because they only had 40 spots, but I also think the timeframe it took people to complete prereqs from the initial announcement of necp in 2007 placed the best packages in last year's board. I appreciate you sharing your story with us, but I don't think it's very relevant to this year's board. for those of us still waiting, don't sweat it, they want to fill the funded spots, and if the intel is right then 95% of us are in...

I feel the same...as long as I am accepted I will go wherever the Air Force wants to send me, especially if they send me with my hubby. It will be hard enough having to be without him in the States while I go to school....
If I get accepted, he will try to get a curtailment and it will probably get approved but not until next year; there is no way he will be able to come with me when I first leave. We are preparing to be apart for about a year right now....
