I just submitted my application to the Nurse Corps Scholarship, I just found out about this a few months ago anyone have any advice or tips? I am most worried by my SAI number. It is within the range but its on the upper end more than lower.

Hey everyone! I've been anxiously following this group along with the one on Facebook as a first time applicant. I felt really superstitious posting until everything was finalized for the award, but wanted to share for other/future applicants. This process is beyond stressful, so I hope this info can help at least one person! Congratulations to everyone who is here, regardless of award status. I will continue to keep you all in my thoughts as we pursue our shared dream and I hope to work alongside some of you one day ❤️
- I submitted my completed application the day before it closed
- Credit check on 8/19
- COI received 9/13, submitted back completed documents on 9/17
- Award notification 9/25
- SAI ~5000
- ABSN Program that is $8700/semester (I was about halfway through the 23 month program when I applied, my funding is for 4 semesters/2 years of service since my program ends next July), NSNA member, 4.0 GPA
- Letters of recommendation were completed by my Global Health professor and my manager from a position where I delivered virtual mental health support to adolescents
- In my essay, I spoke on a few of the roles I've had in healthcare with underserved populations. I've worked in healthcare for ~10 years making my way to nursing and am most passionate about mentaI healthcare. I highlighted my 3.5 years as a mental health technician and discussed what I saw and it's influence on my passion to innovate the way inpatient care is delivered. I also worked as a clinical research assistant where I was a smoking cessation counselor to HIV+ participants, and highlighted how I helped improve our session completion rates by the rapport I developed with participants from various backgrounds in this role.
Sorry to be lengthy LOL, I just wanted to include some of the answers I wish I had seen more of while I was anxiously waiting and trying to gauge where I stood! Wishing everyone well moving forward, if there's anything else I can answer I'd be happy to 🙂

Without even knowing you personally, I can tell youre going to an awesome nurse. What youve done for me in this simple post, makes me feel better if I don't receive the award. Knowing that an individual like you had such excellent experiences, makes me understand that I may not have tried hard enough in highlighting my stance for the betterment of humankind. I said all that to say, its so nice to make your acquaintance and thank you. 🙏🏾

Wow thank you so much for these kind words, that was really sweet of you 🥹🫶 you're also going to be a great nurse too! Can I share with you also that those work experiences were all after I initially failed to successfully complete an ADN program? I thought my life, and my dream of nursing was over at that point, I had to start over in so many ways. I understand now it was just part of my journey and I'm thankful for the way things happened for me. I'd encourage anyone struggling on their journey to never stop believing in yourself! Lean into your purpose and let God work 🙏

Amen 🙏🏾 God is definitely there. I'm going through it mentally trying to reconcile life and trying to pay for my dream and its been taxing to say the least. I just for everyone's including my hearts desire to be answered. Thank you again for sharing. Im firm believer in that theres good when bad seems to exist. So just praying that my personal mantra still holds true on this nursing journey.

Very helpful information! I will say I was anxiously waiting to read similar information.
To tag off of it for others:
- SAI in the 5000s
- The "soft" credit check was 8/19 (I did not notice this until reading this forum & Credit Karma did not show me this, so I had to look at Experian).
COI was received on 9/4, responded by 9/6, and received an award notification on 9/25. Interestingly enough, my portal says I was awarded on 9/17. However, I checked pretty frequently, and nothing was updated until the email was sent on 9/25. This is also my first time applying to this program.
- Applied for a 2-year scholarship in a DNP-FNP program, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, not in groups like the Honor Society, etc (I don't have time). Each semester ranges from 8k-10k.
- LOR came from my PCS and the Director of the NP Program; they talked about my contributions as a nurse (Charge trained, Unit Council, Preceptor) and spoke about how I've advocated for patients/classmates.
- My essay focused on how I've cared for the underserved in my volunteer acts and during my nursing career. I also spoke briefly about how it was growing up underserved but tied the focus back to patient care and how I want to see change for others.
I hope this helps others in the future! No matter what, keep on pushing through guys!

Yes, if a finalist doesn't accept their COI in time (or they decline), they could select someone else.
They are sending out denial emails, I just got mine. Crazy how you can be a finalist, do everything on time and still get denied. But I'm a strong believer in Christ, prayed about it and asked if this opportunity is not for me to close the door and I got my answer. Whatever you believe in, whatever decision you get, just know that it is for the best!
Congratulations to everyone who received the award and those who will receive it. I wish you all the best of luck in your nursing journeys 🙂
