Nurse Corps Scholarship 2018-2019

Published

Hi Everyone, I'm planning to apply for the HRSA NurseCorp Scholarship this year. I figured I would go ahead and start the next thread for this award year. I'm currently finishing up some of my prereqs and will be starting my BSN program in June. I know the application date hasn't been released yet but from what I have seen on other threads, it should be opened sometime in March/April with a deadline in May. I've also read that the prompt questions have been the same from one award year to the next so I have begun working on them as well as trying to figure out who I would like to use as recommendations. I would love to hear from all who plan to apply this year.

Hello everyone, psych NP here at the University of Pennsylvania. Haven't heard anything back yet -- I applied for the NHSC and Nurse Corps scholarships. Still hoping and praying for good news! Congratulations to those of you who are finalists! :)

I am also psych NP. didn't get any response. Praying.

I was notified yesterday that I am a finalist. Good luck to everyone who is still awaiting a decision.

Congrats to all of the finalists! Does anyone know how long it takes before we know for sure and they begin payment? My tuition is due this week so obviously it wont be done by then! Do we just get reimbursed?

They will send your university the full amount for your tuition. If you already have taken out a loan, you will get this full amount as a refund. For this semester only, it is our responsibility to use that refunded amount to pay back our loan company. Essentially, we are being reimbursed.

Thank you for that. I had no idea. I was under the impression that they paid the difference if we already accepted financial aid.

What do you mean by this semester only? I thgout we get the full year covered? Or do you mean they will take care of the loans next semester?

The latter statement is what I meant. If you've already had loans applied to next semester I would tell your university to send that money back to the lender so you don't have to worry about needed to be reimbursed again.

I am in a BSN program. My GPA is 3.9 and I have no income right now.

I have not called NurseCorps until now, because I needed some questions answered before accepting. I wish I could say I had them answered- but not really. I ended up reading the manual to him. I start school September 3, and here is my situation. I presently have a Presidential Scholarship, a grant from Illinois, Pell Grant, and the GI Bill. I would love to save my GI bill for my masters- so if I accept, I would not use it. As for the Pell Grant- Do we still receive that or not, or is it just taken off the tuition fee. What about the Scholarship- it is not a tuition only scholarship? The ORC- do we have any way of knowing what that amount is? What if I have another grant to pay for books- does NurseCorps send me the same amount anyway? As for the 14 and above HPSA score- The man sent me to connector.Hrsa.gov . Does it have to have an opening, or just be above a 14? I know this is a lot of questions and I feel extremely blessed- but it is going to be a big tax with a commitment and I want to make sure I make the right decision.
