    Nurse Corps Scholarship 2018-2019

The VA nearby me has a HPSA score of 14 which is the minimum requirement. Double check but I would think that many VA's fall underneath the category. Many of the places I searched in my state miss the score of 14 cutoff by one or two points. As was stated earlier, almost every small community clinic has a high enough score however, many of them aren't hiring RNs (only LPNs).

I was told that we won't receive anymore information until all decisions have been made. If you've turned in the W4 and enrollment verification, then we just sit tight for now until Sep 30.

We will receive more information once all decisions have gone out on or after Sept. 30. ORC is determined by our schools, we have no say in how much that amount is.

From the Program Guidance pdf: Additional Funding Provided by an Alternative Source Receipt of the NCSP award does not automatically preclude an applicant from receiving funds from other programs, as long as no service obligation is involved. Applicants should contact their financial aid officer to determine how the receipt of a NCSP award may affect the receipt of other sources of funding. 1. Financial Aid Received Before Notice of Award Grants and Scholarships If tuition and eligible fees for the academic year have been paid by another source of financial aid (e.g., Pell Grant, state grants or other scholarships) before the student receives notice of the NCSP award, then the school may: a. Return payments to the funding source and submit an invoice to the NCSP for payment. b. Submit an invoice itemizing all additional sources of funding if the participant wishes to keep these grants and/or scholarships. The NCSP will pay the difference between the total tuition and the grant/scholarship funds. Loans If a NCSP participant has taken out a student loan to cover the cost of tuition and fees for his/her summer and/or fall 2018 semester(s), while waiting for notice of a NCSP award, the student's academic institution should: Provide an itemized invoice to the NCSP detailing the total amount of tuition and eligible fees, all grants/scholarships applied and a complete list all student loans. The NCSP will pay the academic institution the tuition/fees invoiced less the amount of grants and scholarships applied.

How you receive the Pell Grant will depend on your individual college/university. Ideally, your school will apply the NurseCorps scholarships fund to your tuition first and the give you the Pell Grant amount as a refund. To my knowledge the scholarship is tuition + ORC. We only receive the ORC once. The ORC amount is determined by our schools and is reported directly to HRSA. We have to say in the amount that's given to us but I assume we'll be told what the amount is beforehand. You should still receive your ORC amount even if you have other grants to cover the amount. And now to the HPSA sites, I've been told by past awardees that sometimes contacting the individual sites provides a clearer picture of openings available (sometimes it may say 0 openings online but if you call and explain your desire for a position there may be room to hire you). To my knowledge, HRSA will send us a form to have completed by our employer within 6 months of graduating and that employer must have a score of 14 of higher. Don't stress though. According to the program guidelines, we will receive assistance with this process when we are near our graduation date.

The latter statement is what I meant. If you've already had loans applied to next semester I would tell your university to send that money back to the lender so you don't have to worry about needed to be reimbursed again.

They will send your university the full amount for your tuition. If you already have taken out a loan, you will get this full amount as a refund. For this semester only, it is our responsibility to use that refunded amount to pay back our loan company. Essentially, we are being reimbursed.
