Hi everyone,
I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.
Thanks
Sorry if this was already discussed, but I was wondering if anyone knew whether Nurse Corps accepted applicants who are entering into a acute care track? Their webpage doesn't specifically call that out but the Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) only allows me to search primary care facilities. Any insight is helpful!
Hi there! I am planning to apply to the 2018 Nurse corps scholarship. I had a question regarding the different tiers? I will be enrolled at WesternU in California in the Fall for their MSNE program. It's 3 years total - 1.5 years full time before taking the NCLEX, and then 1.5 years part-time distance learning while working as an RN before obtaining the master's. They have a in-house application for their recent alumni students for the post-master's FNP program, which I plan to do, that I've heard is almost an automatic acceptance right after graduation. Do you know what tier that would place me in?
Also, how the scholarship/my chances might be affected if I'm in school part-time after the first 1.5 years?
Thanks
Hi all, just a $0.02 here - I am a Nurse Corps scholarship recipient which helped cover the bulk of a 2017-18 1 year accelerated nursing program. I am incredibly grateful & honestly did not think I would get it.
I just wanted to add that if you are not the most financially savvy with taxes, loans, etc. - you may have a steep learning curve after receiving the scholarship. Again, EXTREMELY grateful, but I've had a difficult time coordinating between Nurse Corps and my school's financial aid. A lot of times it feels like there is miscommunication and I am responsible for making sure there's no gaps. I don't find the portal incredibly helpful -- the messaging system is such that you ask a question, someone gives a bare bones answer, and then "closes" the conversation, so you have to start a new topic over again to respond to the same question.
The search tool is kind of a nightmare and is often outdated, so you have to individually check each site to make sure it is still compliant with HPSA scores. For about 20-30 potential sites, this can get frustrating.
There's just a lot of individual case by case scenarios with this scholarship and you have to sometimes be very annoying and persistent with phone calls and questions to get things straightened out. This was a new hat to wear for me, as I hate having to "bother" people, but I've gotten pretty aggressive over the past few months with getting to the bottom of things.
It just gets... complicated before things are simplified, and you might get some surprise requirements along the way that you didn't expect. That's my 2 cents. (SUPER GRATEFUL I KNOW KNOW!) Good luck to all

Graduating from nursing school? If so, you are probably looking for information on the Nurse Corp loan repayment program. This thread is about the Nurse Corp Scholarship program which is one people utilize while they are in school. They have different set ups and most of us are scholarship recipients, we did not apply for the loan repayment program.
